Topic: ALSO....labour pains? Posted: 30 April 2009 at 9:41am |
Also, my second topic I wanted to discuss lol...was when do I know pre labour has started? I know I've been having lotsa BH (see other post) but today my lower tummy is really achey and sore, although no pattern at all. Baby is moving well and apparently fairly much engaged. The pain feels a bit like annoying period pain.
Please tell me this is it and I shall have a baby in my arms very soon lol.

Sounds like it could be...(though I don't want to get your hopes up lol )
My labour with Ben started with over a days worth of fairly regular BH contractions that would ease off during the night, but intensify during the day when I was active. Then I was walking around the mall and started to get really low, crampy pains, plus a sore lower back. It took another 24 hours before I was in fully fledged labour...
Reading your other post, it sounds like something will be happening for you soon, one way or the other, so good luck!

False labour signs
regularity, false contractions never settle down and become regular
they are sporadic , may vary from 10mins to 20 mins to 15 mins with no steady pattern
they stop or weaken altogether if you get up and move around ,real contractions increase
they don't get stronger
But if you are in false labour , the good news is , that its usually not long before your'e in real labour
sounds like yours could be the start of it , but still might be another few days

Have a warm bath and they may go away.
The main difference between BH and contractions is the grating feeling you can feel inside (your cervix starting to open).

Ah that's all very interesting. These pains are not regular, are coming and going but definately intensify when I move around. That's the lower down in tummy ones. The higher up ones that come and go of their own accord seem to be BH tightenings I think?
Jeez don't know. But either way do you think I'll be having her this weekend or is she going to last till the 16th May lol.

You will definitely know when labour starts, the cramps will come at regular intervals and gradually get stronger and stronger.
I had what you are having for the 2 weeks I was over due, dull period like cramps down low under the bump etc but no particular pattern and Caden was very well engaged from 35 weeks.
It sounds like BH to me, but you never know, I have my fingers crossed for ya!

LOL everybody said that to me - "don't worry, you'll know when labour starts" - but I didn't! I rang my midwife and said "I wouldn't want to put any money on it, but I *think* I might be in labour" but I didn't know for sure until my waters broke a couple of hours later (and then boy did I know about it because the contractions got way more intense after that).
The only reason I thought I was in labour was because I started timing my contractions - which to me felt just the same as the BH I'd been having for the previous two days - and they were regular.
Have you had your show? (Although I had mine 10 days before labour so that's not a reliable indicator either!)
I'd say it might only be a couple of days, or you could still have a couple of weeks to go!

This is great, getting all these interesting replies!
Haven't had my show yet. Just my tummy is now feeling rock hard adn a bit sore just about all the time...and the period type cramps come fairly regularly but no pattern...and they get worse if I move around. My lower back is also very sore now.
I'm having another scan tomorrow to see if the fluid around the baby is still low....then the mw has indicated I might be induced. I'm hoping to avoid this and that the baby is going to decide she's not comfy in there now so will come out lol. They're still not sure if I"m leaking fluid so my doing stuff like having a bath orsex to bring on labour is probably not a good idea at this point.
Either way, yesterdays scan indicated baby is nice and bonny (8.8lb- 9.1lb) so is unlikely to be a prem wee thing lol. I was also hoping this might be a mitigating factor in her early arrival!!

I knew pretty quickly I was in labour .. (well after about an hour of regular cramps .. and then they got REALLY SORE) lol.
I did have a day about two weeks before I went into labour where I thought I was as I was in pain .. but when I went into real labour I could totally see the difference.
Not that that helps you in the slightest lol

Golly! Mind you the scans can be out, at 36 weeks we were told JJ was already 8 lb 2 oz and was likely to be 10 lb or so but he only came out 8 lb 13oz, 4 weeks later...
Yay for another scan though

I dont want to get your hopes up , but from what you've said , the fact that they get worse when you walk around etc , I think (and I hope ! ) that it will actually be closer to next week than the 16th .
Have you had a bath to see if they get better ?
The start of my labour (the day before ) my lower back was achy too, which ended up in me having contractions in my back , tummy and legs.
Oh and my show didn't arrive til i was in established labour

If you can't have a bath try a shower - that might help too.

Hi ladies
Well I had a nice hot shower earlier this evening and it helped a little but didn't keep the pains away....they're definately worse when I move around but still just very very uncomfortable as opposed to OMG I can't move . Baby is moving quite a lot too and feels like she's trying to grab my bladder and pull herself out lol. The pain is *almost* in the front of my thighs too at times...but def lower down in the tummy. My back is getting progressively sorer too although we did just go adn do the groceries- not that I lifted anything or walked very fast, just hobbled- but boy oh boy it was talking to me when I got home! That pain has subsided a little but generally feeling a little achey actually.
Hope this leads onto the real thing! Guess the scan tomorrow will help cnfirm things for us anyway.

Urgh woke up this morning after a nights sleep being interupted by some wicked sharp pains centred around my belly button area! WTF is that? Not cramps- like sharp pain. Also had BH and the odd lower tummy cramp but no pattern I could see. My back is feeling a lot better but then I guess I"ve only been up for 20 minutes lol.
Overall not feeling too flash at all, quite nauseous and am still *&^%^ leaking something...so am glad I'm having my scan this morning, a quite worried about this fluid around baby. I guess the mw will tell me all this when she gets the results but if the fluid hasn't increased and/or is lower, would you go for an induction (given bubs is term and a good size) or wait it out for labour to start 'naturally'?

My waters broke and they gave me 12 hours to go into labour naturally, then I had to go into hospital so that I could be given antibiotics (to keep baby safe).
When I rang in the morning to say my waters had broken overnight, I was sent into the hospital so they could check the fluid and check baby. Both were fine so they gave me the 12 hours I stipulated above.
They booked me in for an induction the following day, but I went into labour naturally at midnight (so a pretty close call)

I would go for the induction. It sounds like you are so close, you will either go on your own, or it won't take much to get things going (i.e. the gel as opposed to the synto drip).
The reason Ben came early was because my placenta was half dead, so I'm pretty lucky he decided to come on his own or he might not have made it So, if your fluid level is low, I would want to be on the safe side.

Well- an update. Just back from the scan and the fluid level has increased 3cm..dunno how that happens but there we go. So is within good normal boundries now. I'm happy about that although haven't spoken to mw yet about it. I assume because it's increased that I won't be induced?
The BH seem to have quietened down a bit today but I'm still feeling exhausted and off colour, and the pain comes and goes esp when I'm moving around.
I hope everyone is right adn that I am close. I know every single pg woman must go through this tiredness and sick of being pg and in pain.....but part of me was really wanting a solid answer today of is this baby coming out now or not?! Now I guess it's a waiting game.

All your niggles sound very familiar. I started getting lots of tighenings at the start of the week with Daniel and went for a walk and came back feel like crap and getting a bit of back pain and had lots of cramps etc and that went on for a few days. Friday came and during the evening my cramps settled into a regular pattern but weren't that strong because I was able to go to sleep that night but nothing happened and saturday was very very uneventful. Was checked by MW for lack of movement from Daniel on saturday and it was all good then woke up at 1am sunday morning with contractions that didn't subside no matter what I did. Even on the way to the hospital I still wasnt sure if I was in labour or not. It wasn't until MW got there and did an internal and told me I was 5cm that I knew I was in labour haha - up until then I really wasnt sure even though it hurt alot. He was 39 weeks too.

Ooooh stacey yo've geven me hope that baby might still be here sooner rather than later hun! Thank you! It's nice to 'see' you again too btw....how are you?
I've just had a 2 hour nap...still feel exhauted but a bit better. Baby is def feeling less kicky last 24 hours than previously..not in a scary 'can't feel her way', just like she's slowed down IYKWIM?
I don't kno what this pain is that I keep gettng across my tummy button area is though...it REALLY hurts and is like a sharp pain, it goes after a while, feels nothing like a cramp and is mainily after I've been lying down for a while. Maybe it's trapped wind or something (eeeww).
Sigh. lol.
