Hi,

So I think I have finally realised that no matter what Finley likes to sleep for anything from 30-45 mins at a nap.

His naps are pretty routine, at 9, 12.30, and around 3.30ish, if we go out he sometimes sneaks a 4th nap in.

He wakes up happy and chatty and easily stays up for about 2 hours, so I think its all he needs.

I'm interested to know from other mums with cat nappers, do they ever drop a nap? I am assuming he'll need 3 for ages, as his total sleep in a day is never normally more than 2 hours all naps added together.

Emma has always been a short napper. She dropped down to 2 sleeps a day quite a while ago (sorry can't remember when). She sleeps at around 10:30 and then at around 14:30 for around 30-45min.

He does 12 hours overnight though, eh? He will probably just be awake a little longer, and naturally drop a nap. Right now, about 14 hours sleep a day is about right.

Jackson is now staying awake for 2.5 - 3 hours at a time, though it's still only 2 hours first thing in the morning. I am now trying to figure out how to drop his last nap of the day, as he always fusses for it. So far though, it's been too hard as he just can't stay awake and pleasant to be round for long enough!

Natalie is now doing an average of 60-90mins in the morning, but still only 30mins in the afternoon. As she started being up for longer, she naturally dropped her 3rd sleep, although we had a few days transitioning between 2/3 sleeps. Some days we just had a really early bedtime to make it from the 2nd sleep. I think she dropped the 3rd sleep around 7 months. It was quite a sudden change, with me trying to get her to sleep after a couple of hours, but she refused to go to sleep unless she had been up 3-4 hours.

TBH, I've found it far better with her having only 2 naps a day, as there's really nothing you can get done in a 30min sleep, and I used to spend so much of the day just getting her down to sleep.

Jack was a short napper which was really hard to cope with as all my friends had babies that slept for 2hrs+
He started transitioning to 2 naps a day at about 8mths and then moved to 1 nap sometime after 1yo (sorry can't remember when exactly)

Dom was a short napper. He would have 30 mins in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. At 10mths we dropped the morning nap and he suddenly started sleeping for 1.5-2hrs in the afternoon and still does.

My DS was always a catnapper, having 3-4 30 min naps a day.But when he started crawling at 10 months he stated having big sleeps, obviously as he was being more active. Now at nearly 12 months he has 1-21/2 hrs in both morning and arvo and still sleeps 11-12 hrs at night.

Bump.

I'm interested in this thread too, Fiona, as my DS is exactly the same! He hasn't napped for longer than 45 minutes for most of his life. Amazing what I can get done in those 45 mins - everything except nap myself.
