Im having a bit of a dilema......

I am overdue.......baby was due 26th Dec, and this date was from the 1st day of my LMP which was 21st March 08 (which I am 100% sure of).
However I had a scan last Tuesday (30th Dec) and this said the baby was'nt due till 7th Jan. So I was referred to the Obstetrictian today who's going to induce me next Weds 14th Jan when I will be either 41 weeks (according to the scan) or 42 weeks and 5 days by my dates which I have followed all along.

To make it more confusing the scan I had on the 30th Dec said the baby was already 4kgs! And my midwife is now on holiday and I have a fill-in one who I can't get hold of as yet. Been talking to friends today who all say Im being made to wait too long........am really unsure of what to think!

This is my first baby. Do I need to doubt the Obstetrician or just tough it out til next Weds? Should I be worried about baby's health and well-being? All the scan results were positive and I went on one of the trace machines which indicted everything was all good as well.

Don't worry too much chick. Dates are all fancy guesses anyway. You might just have a big bubs! I'm sure they wouldn't make you wait if they had any doubts about it.

Bummer!!!  did you have any scans early on and if so when did they date the EDD?    The earlier the scan, the more accurate the date.  I wouldnt worry about the size it can be out by 25%!!!  I had a scan at 36 wks that estimated the weight at 3.5kg and there is no way I am carrying a huge baby.

Can you get in touch with the OB again?  and just explain that according to your dates you would be 42+5 which I think most OBs wouldnt be keen on.  They might be able to explain it better to you.

It would also be worth keeping a record of babies movements to make sure everything is going well.  And keep trying your back up MW.

If you are going insane, come and join the Due in Jan 2009 thread...we are all going nuts and some of us arent even overdue yet.

Yeah I basically agree with everything nzpiper has said.

42+5 does seem like a lot to me, if you are sure of your dates then I would try and get hold of the obs for a chat. The later the scan the less accurate it is for dating.

And yeah if you want to moan about being over due come and join us in the Jan 2009 thread.

Maybe you could ring the obstetrician and let him know your concerns. He may be able to put your mind at ease or reschedule you.

When I had my scan when I was overdue I was told it could be a 1 pound either side so not to worry too much about the weight. In saying that they were actually less than 200gms off the mark.

I'm sure if they were concerned they would act on it but to put your mind at rest, definately call them. I know it can be a very worrying time as you ar eso close to the finishing line and just want to cross it without a hitch.

Good luck hun!

Some people would be happy that they have more time to go into labour naturally.... but I can understand that you're probably just keen to have baby out of there!! Has baby measured under for dates all along? You might have a shortie in there...otherwise it is possible that even though you know your LMP date you may have ovulated later in that month than usual and that's what puts your bub out a little on dates.

Hope someone is able to put your mind to rest soon - and that bubs comes quick-smart, too!!

Size wise I have measured ahead of my original due date (26th Dec) the whole pregnancy - oh it all so confusing!

Only other scan I have had was at 20 weeks and it said then that the due date was 7th jan BUT the baby was supposedly undersize then.

Tried to ring the midwife who's supposed to be looking after me now this arvo at between 2 & 3pm and she still hasn't got back to me.......!

I've had 3 scans (6 weeks, 12 weeks and 19 weeks) and they all put bubs 10 days behind my LMP due date which I was sure of too. But my cycles were very long and I think I ovulate later too.

I agree with nzpiper completely, scans, especially at this stage are just estimates.

Hopefully you'll go into labour soon and induction won't be necessary, good luck!
