Topic: 1st Trimester Bathroom Visits! Posted: 21 December 2008 at 5:17pm |
Did you have insane increased urinary frequency during the first trimester?
I had to go 24 times in 24 hours yesterday and hence am up every hour and barely sleeping in between.
Others have this??

Oh my goodness - you poor thing! How frustrating! I have to say this is one thing I haven't experienced too badlly yet but I'm sure it will come.
Although I was Christmas shopping at the mall the other day and had to go about four times in two hours. So annoying having to drag all my shopping into these tiny little cubicles every half hour!
Hope it gets better for you.

Yeah I'm getting it, though not quite that bad, but I guess it depends on when you drink and how much. I find that drinking a lot at once every few hours means I only need to go every few hours rather than all the time. If I'm sipping it's almost hourly

That is pretty excessive, are you drinking that much? You could have a urine infection which causes urinary frequency.

Not drinking excessively. No pain or other infection signs but will get a test done just in case.

Fiona - i had frequent visits for the first 12 week, my Dr thiught it was odd and did a test and I had a UTI. Now I can go all night without having to get up!
Definitley worth doing the test

I had really frequent wee stops until about 8 wks, I drunk a couple of bottles of cranberry to put to rest a slight infection at about 5weeks but def needed to wee more than when I wasn't pg. And mine seems to me more at night time, I still get up probably 3 times a night. Its a real pain

Hate to say it, but It's been so bad for me the whole way through. If anything, the last couple weeks have gotten much worse.
I call it sleep peeing now, cos I'm so used to getting up so many times, I just basically stay asleep. Arrrrggghhh!!!!

I'd get a test done Fiona. I have a mild uti with prcatically no symptoms and the doc only picked it up when he tested my urine routinely at my confirmation visit. It's mild but doesn't seem to want to go too easily.
I'm fine during the day, but peeing heaps at night! I get up 2-3 times absolutely bursting!

Your body produces more when you're pregnant so the drinking fluids thing will only be part of the reason. Hope it eases up for you soon!

I was hooked on drinking milk and would easily go through a 2 litre bottle a day! Plus lots of juice and water so I was constantly in the bathroom It's a pain in the butt!
Although I don't think that came into play untill I was well into my sencond trimester. Mayby you should check with your LMC.

Yeah I had to pee heaps in the first trimester too, but I noticed I wasn't going more during the day, only at night! I was having between 2 and 4 middle of the night trips to the loo, so annoying!
In the second trimester sometimes I would only have to go once during the night so it did seem to get better, but now I'm back to going more frequently again, hehe

That's interesting. My midwife said there was protein in my urine when my tests were done (last month) and asked if I'd had a UTI. As far as I know I didn't and don't but it could explain why I'm having to pee so frequently at night time, I was wondering about it since last pregnancy I didn't start regular bathroom visits at night time until the last trimester.
Might go and get some cranberry juice just in case.
ETA: I've just called my mw and she's faxing me through a referral so I can be tested, better to be safe than sorry IMO.

Ditto!
I was also really bad in the first tri, sometimes every 15-20mins during the day
I get way more sleep with the baby on the outside. Man it feels great not to pee all day and night, and to sleep on my tummy.
Fiona, Make sure you are doing HEAPS on pelvic floor exercises too, or you will be leaky later in your preg. I got slack in the first tri because I felt to sick to clench anything. Then I got a nasty cough at the start of the 3rd tri. Ew. Moist

Mrsmojo - I asked my doctor about cranberry juice. He said it might help the symptoms but if there is an infection there it won't deal with that. Urinary infections are often the ecoli bacteria being present and things like that will need antibiotics.
I went back a week later to make sure it had gone but it hadn't - yet still no real symptoms.
