Topic: What have you given up to TTC? Posted: 14 June 2008 at 12:51pm |
Obviously the important ones, alcohol and smoking once pregnant but have you given these up while TTC? Personally I don't smoke but are partial to the odd glass of wine. How about caffiene, artifical sweetners, sushi etc? I guess if you have been TTC a long time you will give anything a go. I am still waiting for my cycles to regulate (Day 54 so far!!) but do you think it is okay to have these things if you know you aren't yet ovulating therefore no chance of being pregnant?

Mostly just caffeine... I don't drink or smoke, and never gone for most of the foods they consider unsafe anyway.

Lol I still have my diet coke and will have it right up until I get that BFP and I have sushi too.
I don't smoke but I do enjoy a couple of glasses of wine here and there but have ditched that completely for the moment.
I have cut out coffee, sticking to hot chocolate if I REALLY need a hot drink.
Its really up to you! A doctor would more than likely say stop all of that stuff because it doesn't help if you are ttc.

I don't smoke or drink much but with the caffeine and the odd wine I have I just cut those out during the 2ww but still had them whilst AF was around and for about a week after. I didn't chart so could never be sure when I ovulated. I think, especially if it takes a while to get pregnant, that if you cut everything out then the whole thing can become a chore rather than an enjoyable experience.
Caffeine consumption is suppose to reduce fertility but you could just cut down rather than cut it out completely. Is totally up to the individual though.

I gave up my regular bottle (or 2 ) a day of V. I don't drink coffee, tea or coke and I don't smoke so no biggie there but the V was the one that had to go!

I never had a bottle a day, more like a couple of cans a week, but I really do miss my V!

I don't really have to give up anything. I don't smoke, very rarely drink alcohol and when I do its only a glass of wine. I don't drink coffee or anything with caffiene in it. Don't do sushi either

We are TTC and we have both given up smoking. I dont have the issue of drinking as I only even have 1 glass here and there.
I havent stopped eating anything yet but have started eating more green salads and I have limited my coffee intake to 2 cups a day at the most. I dont mind sushi and I only buy it once in a blue moon. When I do buy it I only buy it from places that have it displayed in coolers anyways, otherwise its unsafe for anyone pregnant or not

Hi Mrs B.
I had issues working out the length of my cycle as well.
I had a negative pregnancy test (about CD 45) the day I was going to a friends birthday who just like me can be a big drinker. There was $1,000 on the bar but for some reason I volunteered to drive.
Anyway a week later the next test I took was positive. I am now pleased that I didn't drink my share of the bar tab. Perhaps like a lot of others on here say it is important to be more careful when you 'might' possibly be pregnant JUST IN CASE. But when you know you aren't pregnant eating sushi is still okay... man I miss sushi already....actually that is a lie. I miss wine but don't want to sound like I should be on AA instead of here... Last night I smelt my mothers wine ... Hi my name is runningT and I'm...... :-)

Mostly a lurker here but I just wanted to say that I have nothing to add to what the others have said - that could be why there are a lot of lurkers and not as much feedback.
We were TTC for 10 months so I didn't change anything until I got my BFP....which we then MC. Did eat more fruit and veges though

I tend to eat and drink like I'm preggies from ovulation through to AF, so I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke anyway and I don't drink coffee or tea.

I didn't bother giving up anything, I don't smoke or drink to start with and given that it took over a year for us to conceive the gremlins, giving up other stuff would have been unneccessary torture!
I did cut down my V drink intake after my m/c tho, coz I was a bit paranoid. But I didn't give it up completely.

Hi am about to put a bit of a spin on this. It took us three years to have our DD and during that time I gave up smoking, maintained a healty weight, exercised regulary and seriously cut down on alcohol - as far as I am concerned cutting out smoking and drinking did not help us conceive. By the time our DD was conceived I was smoking - only about 2 per day and having wine most nights. I have just found out that I am pg after trying for one month, during this time still smoking 1-2 per day and at least one glass a wine per day. However exercise each day and am in healthy BMI range. Good luck to you and each to their own.

I dont drink at all, i have cut down on my smoking and not a big coffee drinker anyway.
I got pregnant with both Blair, Ryan and Katelyn while i was smoking, and then gave up completely when i got the BFP.
I think that if you give too much up it changes your life so much that TTC is all you do. I'm just trying to carry on as normal and when we get the BFP i will then stay away from the foods and other bits and pieces that us poor women can't eat .
Congrats on the pregnancy moosmum :)

I had to give up alcohol, I was a huge party animal and first found it pretty hard. It took a while for me to get use to the idea and now I kinda like being sober. A few life style changes helped that too (ie. moving here from the uk, buying a house and renovating it). My morning coffee is also watered down massively. I also tend to watch what I eat after ov as well. Never smoked - so glad I never had that one to deal with.
