If she is going to be away around the time of the birth, who is her backup (try and meet her), suggestions for birthing places, getting bloods done, scan referral form, if you are FF do they accept that?, what sort of labour do they like (some are really anti drugs, others like drugs (like mine)), what is the easiest way to contact her (emergency/non-emergency)...

And then: is she nuts? Maybe not ask her, but take a good look at her. I should've listened to myself when I saw mine - she turned out to be a b**ch!

Don't know if that list helps, I didn't ask much as I only had one choice (everyone else was booked).

arghhhh, I didn't even think of asking those questions when I first met my mw on Monday.. But she did tell me that she would be around when I am due, and that she has a team of 3 back-up midwives!

I think like you said Mel, the number 1 thing is that u like her. coz ur gunna b spending alot of tym 2gether!!!
But u could also ask her qs bout how many babys she delivered, how long shes been a m/w etc.
Also quite important is how long is she gunna leave u b4 calling in backup/a specialist IF ther was sumthing wrong.
All the best hun, hope u have a smooth pregnancy!!

Personally I wouldn't worry about asking too many questions, as others have said just see if you like her. Maybe ask which hospitals she delivers at (or a homebirth if that is what you are after) and how does she work i.e. goes straight for drugs/intervention or tries other things before drugs etc. IMO these are the major things you need to agree on with her. She should then tell you what you need to do i.e. tests etc. Good luck

ETA: to correct horrid spelling!

I never asked mine anything, she happened to be on duty at the clinic when I went in to do a free pregnancy test so I went with her. Luckily we got on well and she's on track to deliver my fourth baby in a few weeks.

We have a section on Tips for Choosing a LMC and also Questions for Care Providers, hope that helps!

FF- formula feeding. ie there's no way I could use my m/w next time (not that I would anyway but that's another story!) as she's so pushy with breastfeeding and I will give #2 formula from birth.

I'd really go with that you like her, she seems well-informed and supportive...or even recommended by somebody. I got my midwife recommended to me and I went with my instincts :)
Good luck!
