Topic: Help 10 months old go to bed ealier Posted: 29 January 2008 at 1:30pm |
DD is 10 months old. During the day she goes down for nap without a fuss generally. She used to go to bed between 7 to 8pm and wake up 6.30am. But recently her bedtime is getting late around 9pm. She could stay even later than 9pm. I don't see difference whether she has 1 or 2 sleeps during the day.
I would love her to go to bed by 8pm latest but at the same time I hate to spend a long time getting her to sleep. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Wow our bubs are very close in age and similar in the sense that they don't go to bed till later on in the evening (espesh in comparison to some people who have a 6-7pm bedtime for their babies ...my boy would NEVER go downt aht early).
Lucas doesn't go down till between 9 and 10 pm, not because I leave it till that late to put him down, i have him bathed at around 7pm everynight ...i feed him and then try to settle him, he can spend literally hours just rolling around in his cot whilst he's half asleep, he has real trouble settling to sleep!

HI girls...
great if you are night owls eh!
I'm a bit of an early to bed kinda girl.. (except lately as it is nice and cool late, and quiet and peaceful so I'm enjoying some 'me' time and making my Peke Moe then!)...BUT...
I think perhaps you need to look at what time day naps are happening?? and then work on a consistent routine for bed and maybe just don't give in??
If Tyde has a late afternoon nap then he will go to bed later (e.g. 8.30/9pm) but most of the time it's between 7-8pm. He will grizzle for a while (especially coz it's been so hot lately) but I be consistent and only go in if it's absolutely necessary (if he sounds like he's getting really worked up) this will usually mean that he's done 'twoseys' in his nappy, or he's ready to drink the last half of his bottle if he didn't finish it before bed.
I also think it depends on their wake up time... my boys wake between 6-7.30am and therefore fits 2 naps in during the day.
sorry.. not lots of answers.. I would just try and be consistent and not get the baby up but deal with everything in their room, and/or slowly adjust the time by about 15mins each night till it's down to the time you would like it to be. :)
all the best!

True, Mum2Lucas, I am so jealous of those whose bubs go to bed early.
She seems knowing what she wants tho. She could be so easy if she wants to sleep so I sort of tried not to stress out too much. I have been trying 1 and 2 sleeps for the day but neither of them worked out well. The prob is that her second nap is 4ish onwards and she won’t do anything such as eating when she needs a sleep. So if I let her have second nap, she won’t go to bed until late. But with 1 sleep, I do the bedtime routine stuff and send her to bed at 6ish, she would wake up in couple of hours and won’t go back to sleep.

Oh my god, Mum2Lucas, our bubs are not just very close in age. They are exactly the same age.

My thoughts:
Do you use a black out shade for their bedroom? Daniel has one in his room so it turns it immediately into night time for him (he goes down in the hour of 6)
Are you really consistent? ala use the same bedtime routine without fail? We did this to get Daniel into a good habit of going to bed without all the fuss as in the beginning we had issues with him going down at 9ish. Using the same bedtime routine each night helped him get into the habit of knowing when is bedtime and not to make a fuss about it.
You may want to work on changing her day naps/routine. 4pm is rather late if you want her to go down at 8. I realise my boy is younger but I don't let him sleep past 4pm usually unless hes had a very hard day. Even if you just put her in her cot earlier, doesn't matter if she goes to sleep or not but it's still "time out" and time for her to relax and wind down a bit.

Wow they are the same age Michsal, yeah I have the same problems regarding naps during the day too. Its always the same thing each night whether or not I try one or two naps during the day and every routine we have tried ...to date doesn't seem to make a difference!
Some nights when he is pooped though he doesn't put up a fuss, its when he is overtired and grumpy that its very hard to settle him!
I remember ppl telling me that the night feeds would stop around 3 months....and they didn't
Then 6 months ...and they didn't
9 months still the same ....I think he may be 2 before i get a decent uninterrupted nights sleep. Oh the joys of motherhood.
In posting this, Lucas has been asleep for 3 hours now and only rolled around a couple times so fingers crossed maybe only 1 feed tonight as opposed to two!
How are you solids going Michsal? How much does bub eat in one sitting, any problems there? ....We seem to take one step forward two steps back, getting nowhere fast!

Gina has been going to bed at around 8:30pm for many many months now and no amount of trying on our part has managed to change it. If we put her in her cot earlier, she'll just play for a while but will not sleep before 8:30pm. We just go with it to be honest - at least she sleeps between then and around 7am so we get a good rest too (normally)

I know what you mean. Ppl always say ¡¥you need to see the light at the end of the tunnel¡¦ but it is easier said than done. Sometimes I wish I did not know when they are supposed to sleep through cos it just doesn¡¦t happen as it is supposed to. I have also read that the sleep prob could be on and off for a few years so I am sort of prepared for the worse. I am trying hard not to complain. Bubs¡¦ brains are just too complicated for us to understand.

I did read on March mums that you are having a bit of prob with your bub¡¦s solid taking. Hopefully the nurse you¡¦re going to meet will give you some good hints.
I don¡¦t know how much solids she is supposed to have. Sometimes she takes more sometimes less. But what I¡¦ve found is that she likes to mix when eating, a bit of savoury, a sip of water, a slice of fruit etc.
