I got to about the 7th month of TTC#1 unsuccessfully and was starting to get wound up about it and all anxious that it would never happen for me. I started looking into natural therapies like acupuncture and homeopathy/naturopathy as I felt I needed to do something pro-active other than just charting.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not too sure exactly how or why it works - as you probably know acupunture is an ancient chinese form of medicine so a lot of it is still very 'mystical' to me.

However, what my acupuncturist explained after my first session when she looked at my tongue and felt my pulse vibrations, was that my kidneys had very weak vibration and were in poor condition and in chinese medicine the kidney's rule fertility. So the idea of my sessions since has been to build them up (I also take herbs for this which she recommended) which seems to be working as my kidney vibrations are now strong.

I guess it can all sound quite 'airy fairy' to those only familiar with western medicine. For me it has been good as my charts have generally leveled out with more consistant temps etc and the anxiety levels have definitely subsided and I'm a LOT more relaxed about the whole process - just gotta get a BFP and have the bubba now!

Sorry this is a bit of a novel - not sure if I really answered your question either...

Hi Emma after over 18mths trying for #1 I started acupuncture after a work collegue recommended a lady that specialised in helping women with fertility issues. I saw her for about 5mths and loved the relaxed feeling I always had after acupuncture. Then I started clomid and on the third try of clomid and with the acupuncture I was pregnant with my daughter. I really believe that doing both worked for me. But now that we have moved to NP I need to try and find someone else. Any questions let me know.

Sounds very interesting - thanks for your replies so far, just another couple of questions - how long do you need to go to accupuncture before you may get a result and what kind of prices are we talking about?
I'm willing to try it and just want to know some more!

thanks!
em

Em - unfortunately for me I've been having acupuncture for about about 4-5 months without a bubs in the making so far, but as I said above - it has helped calm me down and I also love the relaxed feeling I get after each session (it's a total piece of 'me' time) so that's why I keep going, I feel as though it's helping (even if it's a placebo effect!)... and my acupuncturist is a totally lovely lady so I enjoy visiting.

My sessions cost me $50 for 45min and I usually go every fortnight (once in the early part of my cycle and once after OV - the herbs I take are $12 a bottle (again one sort for before OV and another for after) and they last two cycles generally.

Hi

I am going to acupuncture and have been going once a week and more sometimes depending where in my cycle I was. I have pcos and noticed after 12 treatments my cycles went from 44-50 days long to 35 days long and I am now pregnant and continuing to have acupuncture to reduce the risk of miscarrage.

Im not sure how it works but apparently I was kidney and splien deficient? my acupuncturist lent me a book to read about acupuncture and fertility and it was quite complex but interesting, talks about diet too. I would recommend it for sure, there are also some good information on the internet too. If you do go to one make sure they specialise in fertility

Well I'm back! The lady was lovely and made me feel really comfortable - asked me my history of TTC and AF patterns etc then a whole heap of general health questions.
She took my pulse then looked at my tongue then I had about 12 or so needles in my back for about 30 minutes - it didn't hurt at all and was really relaxing, lying there just listening to music.
She then took my pulse again then gave me two quick needles - one in each wrist.
Hoping to see a wee change in the next week, not just fertility wise, but general well-being etc...

Honeybun - how did your appointment go the other day?
I have my next appointment tomorrow night - hoping she can give me good luck for this month - I'm due to ovulate in the next couple of days!

I'm a huge fan of accupunture. I first started having accupuncture when I was getting migrains once a week (years ago). It help stop my migraines completely (until I fell pregnant - but thats another story ).

I started having accupunture to get my body in the best possible shape for TTC. I then continued going to make sure I was ovulating. My accupuncutrist also suggest not using tampons, but to use pads. I followed her advise and after 3 months of trying, we fell pregnant.

I do believe that accupuncture helped (along with standing on my head after 'special cuddles' hehe) - but I'm also going from the fact that accupuncture helped me with my migraines, so I know accupuncture works for me.

I also had accupuncture throughout my pregnancy to help with morning sickness, indigestion, sore back, water retention etc and it worked a treat.

All the best with you guys, I really hope you wishes come true very soon.

Hi all

Well went to have acupuncture on monday but after he took my pulse and checked my eyelids and tounge which he said were very pale he recommended that I should just take some chinese herbs for two weeks first then do acupuncture. He asked about my periods and said I needed to strengthen my blood and kidneys so hoping that it makes my next period more healthy.

I'm on herbs too, to help invigorate my kidneys (for the want of a better word!)... I'm actaully due for another session myself but have run out of money thanks to being a little over enthusiastic with my christmas shopping... oops!

I found as a side-benefit my headaches have stopped after starting acupuncture too... and haven't had a full blown migraine for ages either, touchwood!

had my session - another good one, felt really relaxed. my pulse is still strong and my tongue looks good (apparently!)
Today I had about 9 needles, some around my abdomen, and some in my feet/legs and near the base of my thumbs.

Hoping that it helped my egg 'drop' as I'm due to ovulate!

She also lent me a book for the week all about acupuncture, which I've had a quick browse through just before - acupuncture sure is interesting!

That was a cool thread to read with Emachan's preg ticker in it now! Took me awhile to realise that of course the ticker changes through all the threads, I couldn't figure out why you were getting acupuncture when you were already preg!!!!
