I had varicose veins quite bad during my pregnancy with the gremlins, I thought they were coz of the weight of the babies, and they went right down again after they were born, but now they have popped up again and given that the scan on Tues showed bubs was all of about 3mm long I'm pretty sure that they're not caused by the weight of the baby this time!

Does anyone else know what causes them? And anything I can do to prevent them getting worse? I know they are genetic, and both my mum and grandma have them something shocking.

I think it may be caused by increased blood flow and maybe the heat as is seems to rather warm everywhere this week.

I've had one that's been lurking beneath the surface for about 2 years. It popped out at about 12 weeks into my pregnancy.
I agree with danni, it seems to be due to increased blood flow.

Congrats on your pregnancy, BTW. That's lovely news

Pregnancy hormones make everything nice and relaxy, including your blood vessels which can make you more prone to having the veins worse during pregnancy, annoyingly, since they were kinda "formed" during your last one, the potential for them to pop out was already there it just took opregnancy to relax things again - plus - increased blood volume related to pregnancy will probably be starting to kick into gear as well - which all adds up!
