I'm 28 weeks pregnant with my second baby and have started developing painful varicose veins in my nether regions ... front & Back!!!! I'm horrified and in pain ... standing and sitting is difficult. Not only that but I am working as a teacher 3 days a week which requires a lot of standing and when I'm not at work I'm running after a 15kg toddler and rarely get the opportunity to put my feet up! Does anyone have any remedies for my predicament????

I know that sitting in a very hot bath is suppose to help with heamarroids (sp?), i'm not sure if that would help? I think heamarroids are varicose veins in the butt, but again i'm not sure. Probably have a chat with your m/w and see what she recommends, does not sound at all pleasant.

i have this.... you can pm me if you like....i had had a few issues in that region and was embarrassed but told her everything as I thought i had an infection...had tests etc but it is just the veins...(she took a look the other day..ugh!!)

she said they go away after baby as far as i know there isn't any treatment.. mine are just a little irritating.. I have the hemorrhoid(sp?) issue too that started off with them being just veins(then they turn into hemorrhoids sometimes) ..mine aren't painful fortunately...but have cream for that..so yeah if mine were more painful i guess i would have looked at asking about treatment(in front) ...I wouldn't recommend the hot bath thing just because that's never really that great when pregnant.. i heard a tepid bath but i would ask your midwife.. and I think standing all day(I was a teacher too) and lifting all the kids(preschool) didn't help..

ugh the things we talk about on here..but hopefully makes you realise you aren't alone!!:)

for haemorroids/prevention my midwife said try cream and eating LSA (ground linseed, sunflower seed & almond) daily (sprinkle it on muesli or in smoothies).

If that doesn't work try suppositories. Not sure what to do about the front tho!

Hot baths are ok once you hit the third trimester.

My Dr told me to avoid hot baths through the whole pregnancy as it can cause premature labour...

Bizaar, there is a hot pool especially for preggy ladies at burwood hospital, you just have to be 28+ weeks to use it.

I had them throughout my whole pregnancy and then going through labour and pushing for 3 hours has made them a whole lot worse now!! So unfortunately I STILL have them

So not fun!

Thanks all ... by the sounds of it there's no quick fix ... but at least I'm not alone!!
I had 3 hours of pushing last time 'Peachy' ... hopefully not again ... and lets pray that they do go away!
