Topic: First time Mums... Posted: 06 June 2008 at 12:44pm |
I was lying in the bath last night thinking about when I was at this stage in my pregnancy with Maya, and how excited and nervous I was about what would happen over the next few weeks. It was such a special time, I really had no idea what to expect but I was soooo anxious to meet my little baby.
Now I'm in the final stages of my last pregnancy and it's just not the same. I'm far too busy chasing the 3 I already have to spend time thinking about life after baby arrives, and besides, having done it twice before now it's lost the whole mystery and uncertainty that goes with having your first baby, it's just not as much fun!
So big ups to all the first time mums to be, hope you guys are enjoying your pregnancies coz even tho time seems to drag when you're actually pregnant it actually flies and you can't get it back again! Enjoy meeting your little people!

Thanks Emma!
I've been trying not to take it all for granted, and to take all the experiences in. Not scared (yet), just looking forward to this end of WAITING!
(and I will refuse to read between the lines of your post, which suggests that life will get more hectic for me! LOL )

Thanks Emma!
I love laying in the bath, just me and my belly and although I can't wait to meet my little one I am definitely trying to enjoy these last months. I love the fact that right now, because she is inside me, she is all mine! But I can't wait to share her with DH (not that he doesn't sing or talk to her everyday) in a physical sense. The other part I'm loving is my body right now. Have never much been a fan of it but its pretty amazing what it's doing and I love my bump!! I now understand why so many woman love being pregnant, I had never thought it would be like this fo r me

I was saying the same to my DH the other night.
When your counting up to 40wks it seems such a long way off..... then all of a sudden your counting down and you wonder where has all the time gone

Gosh Emma, I so know where you're coming from with not having time to ponder your current pregnancy, and the excitement of having the baby, cos you're too busy with the other children you have.
That's one thing that actually upset me a bit when I was pg with Jett. I knew my time with him would be rushed. I'd have to fed/burp/change him, and then be off to deal with the other 2, instead of getting "quality time" with him, and being able to enjoy him at a newborn.
You think you're soo busy when you have your first baby, and don't find time to do much other than care for your bub, but my goodness! I just wish I knew then, what I do now about how easy it is to care for just ONE child. But when it's your first, it's all learning and working out how to care for this new being.
So yeah, all your 1st time mums to be - definitely enjoy your firstborn! You won't get that same again, and once your 2nd/3rd come along, you'll understand what I'm talking about.

I am loving being pregnant, Baby was a complete surprise and although I'm totally uncomfortable most of the time its so wonderful. I never realised how lonely life was before when it was just me and now I have a little person with me all the time. Ok so they don't talk back to me yet...
My favourite time of the day is just after I've got into bed and its all quiet and Baby is flipping and kicking and bouncing around. I can't wait to meet him/her.

So true. Such a nice thing to post. I think the best bit about the first one is those weeks between when you finish work and have the baby. I had six weeks and it was just such a special time to finish little organising things and also to do nice things for yourself. It is a time you never get again and is so exciting and special.

Thanks Emma - it's a good reminder for me as I definitely haven't enjoyed a lot of my pregnancy. I have loved being able to feel the baby moving and imagining it's personality and although I'm getting quite impatient, it's more an excited anticipation than anything else.

Me too! I had nearly 10 weeks coz I had to finish early due to SPD and the first couple of weeks were Xmas and New Years so just disappeared, but then I had all of Jan and Feb to just hang out and think about my wee baby. It was so nice, and so special.

LOL this is my favourite time too - - in fact sometimes I just don't want to get out of bed in case it stops!! I think I'm really gonna miss that connection. sounds super cheesy but it really feels so special

This time last year i was still waiting to be a first time mum, hoping that those uncomfortable cramps were the real thing, just anxious for her to come out so i could meet her (and stop being pregnant, i was sick of it )
the cramps were real, she was born the next night, and now six years later , she has bought me more joy, more laughter, more tears and more heartache than anyone i've ever met.....and i wouldn't trade a single minute of it.
And i cant wait to do it all again , all the sh*t you go through in pregnancy , the labour, the tears etc etc is all so worth it when you look into their eyes and see a lifetime of love ahead of you
goodluck firsttime (and second third fourth time) mums-you have got a hell of a ride ahead of you, but hold on tight and cherish every minute of it

that is really lovely emma! thanks for posting that. i don't remember too much in my first preggy, but i did have baths every night and enjoy watching baby move. and DH would sit there too and we would watch the baby move in the warmth and enjoy it. I can't wait for that to start happening this time round as i know V will enjoy watching his lil brother move too. But i do agree, time just flies when you're having fun (or busy as the case may be).

Thanks for the reminder - it's so easy to get worn down by the pain and tiredness but I know that once bubs is out, I'll be thinking "I should have enjoyed that time more". Will make the most of my time off before baby comes (though it's scary how the time is getting filled up!).
