Just wondering how many adults/kids were at your bub's 1st birthday party. I'm already planning Ava's first birthday and worked out that there will be only 7-8kids and about 20 adults. DH thought that was strange...

And did the kids play games and if so what were they?

Oh and any party bag ideas please!

My experience is that babies tend to sleep through their birthday party and it's all about the adults celebrating they survived a year!

We're going to have about 5 babies and probably 10-15 adults. We'll keep it pretty small and to close friends who have been big supports to us in the last year.

Party bags - uh, my plan is to leave that till they can remember it (or get the MIL to arrange it!)

My friends' baby turned one earlier this month. They had a party for the adults basically - everyone brought their kids but it was a huge range because we were mostly celebratng that our friends had survived their first year of parenthood They did have a cool cake for the birthday boy (and he was allowed to make a mess of himself eating a slice) and we all brought pressies but they didn't have party games and stuff.

My SIL just had a BBQ for her two boys' 1st birthdays, same sort of thing, mostly aimed at the adults.

Depending on the ages of the kids you've got coming you might want one or two games to keep them entertained but if the kids have a huge range in age it might be more trouble than it's worth, IME!

C's first birthday was mostly adults (my friends and family ) and a couple of kids who were there cos their parents were there .

It really is more of a day for the adults, C doesnt remember it at all, nor her 2nd or even much of her 3rd, all she remembers from her 3rd is that it was at Chipmunks and my friend dressed up as Charlie Chipmunk , she does however remember her 5th and 6th , which is good because those are the ones I put more effort into .

As for the cake and opening the presents, C couldn't have cared less about the cake , or the singing, she just looked at us like we were crazy , and as for the presents, I think I was more excited, she wanted to go and play

We were having a huge party but figured it wasn't really worth all the money we were going to spend knowing the girls would sleep through most of it so we've made it family only My Mum Dad 2 sisters and 4 nieces and nephews. We are planning a BBQ at our house with plenty of booze for the adults I think its become more about us lol. Looking forward to making the girls their cakes though.

we were leaving the country a few weeks later, so we had a combined farewell and birthday - ton of adults, a three year old and two ten year olds. We gave the older kids a disposable camera, and the babies got bubble mix. kept them occupied. and we had party food - cheerios and fairy bread.

taine had a huge party - we invited everyone from playcentre- but at the time it was summer and we had a huge yard, and we got on well with the parents as well as the kids

we divided it into two parties as was easier to manage.

The kids party there was about 14 kids and 6 adults and just did that afterschool one day as there was a variety of ages (9years to 9months) - they got marshmellows and a balloon on a stick as a loot bag.

His actual birthday party there was about 30 adults and 4 children who were all the same age. They got balloons on a stick and a small thing of bubble mix.

Then we had the combine plunket first birthday as well.
