Ok, so Jackson has taken to attacking me! He grabs and claws at my face and neck vigorously and honestly, he has a devil child face while he does it!! He looks like he is trying to murder me!!! Tonight I have marks on my neck and face where he has grabbed at me.

I don't let him watch violent TV programmes, or play violent computer games, so why is he doing this?!?!

Heh heh, seriously though, anyone else's baby do this?

I assume it is some strange stage. Jackson has always been really tactile with his hands, and has recently really enjoyed feeling things, so maybe it's just another way of exploring with his fingers?

I modelling gentle behaviour touching his own face, and I remove his hands when he does it, but how do you teach a 6 month old not to do it and that it hurts? I am guessing he is too young for the word 'no'?

Hold his hands and/or put him on the floor for a minute when he does it. Have you tried turning him away from you on your knee and direct his attention towards a toy or something? Also, keeping his nails short helps (but they are still sharp!)

my advice is keep his nails short Josh has been through stages of being rough and is going through another one now either hitting and laughing or clawing at me i just put him on the ground and walk away now but there is a bit of an age difference. Could still work for you tho as they do something similar to teach little babies not to bite while breastfeeding by removing them. They should eventually learn that if they do that then it will result in them being taken away from the fun/food could be worth a shot

I wouldn't worry, I'm sure it's him just exploring what those dangly things at the side of his body are for Cooper did the same thing. You have to remember too that we must look really funny to them and maybe he's trying to work you out....

I'm sure he'll settle down soon.

Maybe say Ow & take his hands off? Kiss his hands if he's gentle?

It's a stage. When Daniel did it, I would grab his hands and get them to gently pat my face which he was attempting to claw off and say "gentle touching" then give him a cuddle. I also keep his nails trimmed. Now, I tend to just do a firm "No", take his hands and move him away. I'm not convinced he understands no, but the tone of voice distracts him from what he's doing.

Joel grabs our faces with both his hands and grins and leans in, but then he just licks our faces like hes trying to kiss

Aw, cute. I call Jackson my little sucker fish as he 'kisses' with a huge open mouth, and a bit of tongue action thrown in. Gross, but cute too. :o)
