Topic: Eczema or Irritation? Posted: 03 October 2008 at 10:01pm |
Caden has broken out in little red spots on his forehead, base of his neck and on his back, it looks like it could be Eczema or maybe a allergic reaction to something.
He was on Heinz Nuture for hungry Babies, has been for about 2 weeks, the rash started about a week ago. I went to the chemist today and asked if they had some cream I could put on, she asked what I bath him in, I said J&J products, and she said that they can be prone to cause babys skin to flair up. I started using the J&J baby shampoo a week ago, so do you think this could have caused it or maybe the formula? Ive put him on S26 now anyways just in case it was the formula.
But, if it was the shampoo it wouldnt cause a rash on his back would it?
I also use J&J baby oil gel with lavender in it to massgae him, but he doesnt have the rash anywhere else and I dont use this on his face so I dont think its that...
Im just a tad concerned about it, and Im wondering if I should take him to see the doctor...

Hmm could well be the shampoo, cos it would kinda drip down his back when you wash it off I guess.
Little red dots doesn't really sound like eczema, have you got a photo of it? Could it be heat rash? Is he otherwise happy?
I'd keep an eye on it and if you're concerned take him to the doctor to get it checked out just in case. Oh and do the glass test thing for meningitis... roll a glass over it and if the spots disappear it's all good.
Sorry Sheena hope those thoughts make sense, it's late and I'm tired so not the most cohesive!

Its not a very good pic, I took this yesterday..
Apart from having the snuffles Caden is fine, he seems happy enough, still chatting away and stuff, he isnt pale or floppy or anything like that, he he drank 180mls of formula before he went to sleep and Ive been checking him and he is sleeping peacfully,.
It doesnt look like a meningitis rash, I did the glass thing but they didnt fade, but tha twas on his forehead and I disnt press to hard cos he is sleeping.
ETA-I did thr glass thing again and the spots did go away **thank god!** I just didnt do it properly last time!

Looks kinda like a heat rash, maybe?
Hannah used to break out in those spots on her face, neck and back. But it was the middle of summer.
Mind you., seasons are changing and humidity is up there, so perhaps it's that?

Yeah maybe, He does seem to get quite hot sometimes now that the weather is changing, especially in the car.
Its heaps better today, I used the cream the chemist gave me and it isnt so red.
I think it was probably from the shampoo, I didnt use it last night so thats probably helped.

Sounds like it could be the shampoo to me. I don't really think babies need to be washed with soap etc - especially not one with lots of chemicals in it. If he has sensitive skin I would tend not to use anything in his bath and just to wash his hair in a natural shampoo every now and then, and use a natural moisturiser if he needs it.

Yeah, Im going to use a natural shampoo from now on. His body is fine with the J&J baby bath etc it was just the shampoo. I might try J&J naturals.

With the small amount of hair he has I wouldn't even bother with the shampoo. Daniel had loads of hair and we only wash it in water and only shampoo if there is food or some weird stuff stuck in his hair from his explorations so his gets washed like once a fortnight maybe.

I mainly washed it because he liked having it done, but will just stick to swishing water over it instead

It definitely doesn't look like eczema, eczema is kind of scaly and raised, it looks more like a mild heat rash.
I use J and J Soothing Naturals or Ecostore with my girls coz Maya and Mercedes are prone to eczema and anything else makes it worse. I know I could just use water but I like the smell of the Soothing Naturals

The J and J shampoo smells sooooo yummy, reminds me of when I was a kid coz mum used to use it on us. I tried it on Maya once and she got nasty eczema, I was gutted coz I the smell.
