I am sure I have seen a thread about this before but can't find it. Jack is 10mths and I assume he will start eating with DH and myself at sometime soon, but I would love to know what others did. I have the following questions:

  • when did your baby starting eating dinner with you i.e eat exactly the same meal as you?
  • was baby feeding themself? Jack is more than happy to be fed at the moment
  • what time did you all eat dinner then? how did that affect the rest of your bedtime routine?

We still dont eat dinner at the same time as Isla- she still has hers at 5pm, and ours when we go to bed. We do sit with her while she eats tho, and she is happy with it this way, so we will continue like this, and if/when it becpmes an issue, we will start eating with her. She often has differnt food than us, or a variation of what we had the night before (cos of allergies).
She has been refusing to be fed since 9 months, so has been feeding herself,...mostly by hand but now learning to use spoon, since then.

So I guess its very different for everyone!

We started offering Gina "family food" when she was around 11 months old - sometimes she'll have it, sometimes not. We always have a back up for her.

was baby feeding themself? Jack is more than happy to be fed at the moment
No, we are feeding Gina. We give her finger food to hold and eat but the majority of the food she ends up eating, she's fed.

what time did you all eat dinner then? how did that affect the rest of your bedtime routine?
We tend to feed Gina first - it's just easier. Then she'll have finger foods/dessert etc while we eat. She tends to have dinner at around 6pm and we eat at around 7pm. It fits perfectly with our bedtime routine.

We all have dinner together and Kryssi is 13mos. I can't remember when it started but it was by 8mos. Most nights she has the same as everyone else - but pre-chopped and cooled so it takes a bit of forethought. Usually we let her muck in with her fingers so we can eat our own dinners!

Up until the about 8mos stage I had her in the highchair in the kitchen while I cooked dinner and fed her spoonfulls of food in between cooking duties. The biggest difference really just was how long she was ready to wait for dinner!

We usually have dinner at 5.30 here and Kryssi goes to bed at 6.30. 6pm dinner at the latest

ditto on busy mums routine! :)
we normally eat about 5.30/6pm, Tyde will mostly have what we have, but I do normally have something as back up (e.g. a banana! haha). we are terrible and eat in the lounge room as the dining room is my 'cutting out' / work room! He is in a walker type thing for meals and we either sit and feed/eat with him, or he has his finger foods to eat while we eat. Sometimes we'll all eat at the table (if I remove all my fabrics etc) too.
He is 12months and getting better with most foods (e.g. boiled vegies, aria farm meat chips, pasta, etc.)

I tend to feed Yusra at 5.30. Then I give her some finger food while I am preparing for our dinner. And she sometimes would continue eating what we are eating at 6pm. There are still certain food she can't eat with us such as steak so she has to have something else.

Thanks everyone. From what I had read and heard I was thinking that I should start Jack eating meals with us soon and eating the same meals. I just couldn't see how that would work. I think we will continue with what we are doing now for a while yet until he is a bit older and able to stay up a bit later to fit everythingin.
