I had two horrible births, (due to my crappy body!) but had the best care at Auckland. I really liked that i generally had the same nurse in the day and then change over at night, and it was the same people, they actually get to know you and you can build a bit more of a relationship. My 2nd baby was in NICU for a while and i was fairly ill but they wheeled me down there whenever i wanted to see him. No hassles. Im lucky he is even alive because of the doctors there! They were just generally really lovely, couldnt rave about them enough. Food, hmm its ok. I took alot of my own snacks second time.
I had my baby 2 months prem due to severe pre-eclampsia. I was supposed to birth at NSH and transfer to Warkworth after (its like $500 a night to go to Birthcare in Parnell if you dont give birth at Auckland!)
I obv ended up in hospital much earlier than planned and the care I had at NSH was amazing. The midwives watched me around the clock and the surgeons were so careful and very friendly. They even let my partner and family stay well past visiting hours.
My baby was then put into SCBU and they were awesome with him. He was there for a month and they treated him and us with so much care and support.
I heard many bad things about NSH and didnt want to birth there at all, but my midwife would only birth there so I had no other choice. But it turned out to be a wonderful situation in the end.
Just wondering whether anyone had any recent thoughts on this topic? I've heard North Shore has changed quite a bit over the last few years (for the better).
It's ridiculously early for me to be considering this, but I kind of need to decide this before I can start looking for a LMC.
