Ok so my DS1 is turning 3 next week and we are having a party for him in the weekend - the only problem is that I have no idea what on earth you're supposed to do for a 3 year olds birthday party (having never been to one!!). We have invited 6 or 7 of his wee friends from pre-school and will have family here too.

We will have a birthday cake and some party food, but other than that what do we do?!? Are three year olds old enough for any sort of party games or do you just let them run riot around the place fuelled on by sugar!! What did you do for your 3 year old's birthday?

We had ours at play group so there was heaps for them to do, so didn't bother with games.

Went to two in the weekend - one had lots of stuff set up out side eg sand pit, tents, bikes, chalk, water play etc and the kids all had fun.

We played pass the parcel at the next one and it all went well - most of the kids hadn't played before, but before the end most of them had worked out to hold on to the present for ages before passing it in case the music stopped

Enjoy the party and happy birthday to your DS!

ETA - one we went to a couple pf weeks ago did a treasure hunt in the garden with little bottles of bubbles as prizes - most of the kids needed adult help to find the presents, but then they all played with the bubbles.

Thanks DJ - the treasure hunt is a cool idea. I'm glad to hear that pass the parcel went well too, as that was the only idea I had come up with!
