Yep I was gonna suggest this as well. Also if you don't have airbags you can put the carseat in the front passenger seat, the belt might be longer there than in the back.

I've been to Repco and Appco today and tried their seatbelt extenders and none of them work on my car :(
the 3 local plunkets that i went too couldnt tell me how to properly install a car seat (!!!!) and referred me to their Dominion Road car seat hire place.
Im resigned to the fact that we will need a car seat with a base - are these OK to use in front seats??

I think as long as you don't have a front passenger air bag it should be fine, but just check the manufacturer instructions to be sure.

I am not sure where you live, but the Plunket Carseat Hire place in Henderdon fitted my capsule in my car and they were fantastic!! Sooooooo helpful and worth the effort of going there to get it done properly!
I recommend you try them before before buying a new capsule though.

We had a hard time with our capsule... I have a lil 2 door Toyota Glanza (Starlet) and found we could put it in the back, but the seatbelt wasn't long enough for the lap part... in the end Phoenix was moved to the front seat, with the seat slightly reclined and it worked fine, just meant DF had to ride in the back hahaha.
Last week we switched to a carseat, but we had to go with front facing as my car is sooo small. Glad I shelled out extra for a great carseat.

what year civic have you got? Iv got one too, and wondering how the capsules going to fit etc.. |
My DH drives a '95 civic and we had to put the capsule on the front seat as it physically couldn't fit in the back as there isn't enough space. Our capsule isn't one of the base ones though not sure if one of those would have fitted better, but DH just uses the civic to get to work and my car is our main vehicle so we hadn't tried the capsule in it until my car was in having some repairs and we needed to go out.

You would need to go to a plunket car seat place to get the help.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

can you get a base for this capsule? i think they used to sell them at kmart? A base often doesn't need as long a seat belt as the capsules themselves. i could be wrong, but i wouldn't think they would need as much.
