Topic: Any advice? Posted: 29 April 2008 at 6:20pm |
Hi
I have only used disposables but have to admit that when I look at your threads I am tempted to give cloth a go for baby #2.
Ollie is now 18 months and we are having issues with night wetting maybe 30% of the time. It is such a pain getting up at 3 am to change nappies, sheets, sleeping bag etc and then resettle him. I have been using a Huggies nappy PLUS a pull up over the top! - Crazy isn't it?!? And I can't believe sometimes that STILL doesn't work. Anyway my question is would you guys think that I could solve this problem by using MCNs for night time? Or would cloth be worse?
If you think it might work what would I have to buy?
Thanks heaps.

sounds like ollie is abit of a heavy wetter? in that case, maybe a fitted nappy with a soaker over the top or a pocket with hemp/bamboo and m/f?
i'm not 100% sure as mine aren't really big wetters, but i do think you should definately give cloth a go!! you'd save alot $$$ not buying huggies
perhaps ask stacey (kebakat) about naps as i think her boy daniel is a heavy wetter.
just beware.....mcn's are addictive!

I had problems with leaking with cloth... switched back to disposables and the leaking was worse... switched back to cloth and managed to find a solution.
Ended up being a majorly stuffed pocket with a large sized designer bums cover overtop.
So I would advise the same - I don't think a fitted would be beneficial as I really needed the waterproofing. So get a good pocket, lots of hemp and/or bamboo (trifolds are good), and a good wool cover.
I have to say that the nappy will be huuuuuuge. It'll shock ya But Ollie won't suffer any lasting effects other than a swagger on his way to bed at night.
I think you'll get differing opinions from everyone, so that's just mine.
Good luck!

I think MCN's would be a great thing. You can customise the absorbancy to suit your needs so you shouldn't need to change sheets etc. Worst case is it takes a few nights to sort out the level needed but at least there would be an end to it.
My daughter has just recently become a mega wetter at night and we are having great sucess with a Monkey Doodle fitted with a doubler plus an extra hemp trifold insert for good measure. This combination with the cover over top and nothing gets out in the 12-13 hours she sleeps overnight!!

My boy knows how to pee through almost everything.
At his very worst we used one of my naps stuffed with 1 microfibre/hemp trifold, 2-2layer hemp trifolds, a 3 layer hemp booster and then on top of that we used a woolen soaker.
It makes for a big nap but in the morning the sheets and butt were dry which is the main thing.
Slowly though he's started peeing less during the night so we have been able to reduce the amount of inserts.
Daniel can pee through every fitted we have tried which some people rave about.

or you could just put extra layers on his bed so you just have to whip them off in the middle of the night and have a fresh set underneath and change him before you go to bed. i would suggest too that maybe the pull up over the nappy might be affecting it somewhat.

My daughter was 3yrs old when we switched her baby brother to cloth. She was still in a disposable at night but we often got leaks as she was a heavy wetter. We bought her an XL Fuzzi and stuffed it with 3 mf inserts and it did the trick! It might not seem like much stuffing but it was way more absorbant than a disposable or pull-up!

Id recommend staceys nappies, you can stuff then heaps, and even when my DF forgot to out etra inserts in they still didnt leak! If you only need then for night you would only need a couple and just find a good few inserts.. Good luck

LOL Vic one of my first cloth purchases was HH trainers from Snazzipants for Maya coz at 4 she was still in Dry Nites and they were too expensive. She's finally out of them now tho!

You guys are awesome! Thank you so much. Going to give it a try. Will come back here later when have bit more time to reread and figure out exactly what it is I will need to buy!
One quick silly question - what is the difference between a pocket and a fitted? Are fuzzis considered fitted and Stacey's type considered pocket? If I went with something like a fuzzi can I not add extra inserts. Is there not as much space to stuff them.
Bizzy, interesting what you said about the pull up affecting it. I had wondered that too but then a couple of times when I didn't put the pull up on we had a big wet bed. Who knows??
Will buy something cloth and who knows may get addicted.... Then the Oct toddlers Mummies will all have to convince Andie!

Kath - I can send you down some to try if you want? Assuming Ollie is a similar size to the gremlins and fits the meds.

katie1 both fuzzis and stacey's naps are pockets...they have an opening - like a pocket- to put your inserts in. a fitted is shaped and either velcros or snaps on and needs a cover - snazzipants and designer bums are both fitted nappies.

Thanks again for answers to questions. You guys are brilliant.
Emma, do you have a spare one I could try? Ollie is definitely bigger than the gremlins I think but I a med would still prob be fine. Will PM you. That is so nice of you to offer but I don't want your gremlins ending up in disposables because you run out(esp in rampant consumerism month) just because of me!
