Blake has been on solids for a few weeks now and absolutely loving everything we give him. He has 2 meals a day, fruit and veges, a total of 7 icecubes and sometimes some b/milk or babyrice thrown in as well. We also have a sippy cup with water after his solids but I don't think much actually ends up in his tummy (over the floor, over himself, over me etc...)

My question is what should his poo be like? He has started making grunting sounds, goes all red in the face like he's having trouble but doesn't seem to be in pain (that I can tell anyway) and his poo is quite solid - hard enough that I can pick it up like a pebble (sorry TMI!) Should it be like this? We've started giving him water with prune juice in it and I think this helps him go but hasn't seemed to have made a difference to the 'consistency'. Should I be concerned about it?

TIA

Are you giving him breastmilk before each solid feed?

Just remember that for the first 12 months of a baby's life, breastmilk is to be the main source of nutrition. So breastfeeding him before offering solids is the best thing to do. That way, he is properly hydrated to ensure that he doesn't get constipated.

Sometimes veges like kumara can make a baby constipated, so if you are offering Blake that, perhaps you could mix in some EBM into it so he is able to digest it better. Or by cutting it out and reintroducing it in a couple of weeks.

Water with pune juice should help and Watties do a jar of apples withprune juice so maybe give him that (or make that up) for reakfast a few times a week to keep things moving. It does get better as they get use to food in their system!

Caden has been on solids for a month now and his poo's are always semi solid...like mushy. He has 2 or 3 solids a day, just fruit and a bit of vege in the evening, but sometimes he prefers the fruit more than the veges.
He is having a bit of water aswell, but not a lot.

Maybe buy the watties baby food with prune juice in it, they will help get him going, Caden has that once once a week. . His poo's should be a soft consistency as he is only having pureed food.
