To be honest i havent found it that hard. The 13mth gap was good, as DD1 was still having 2 sleeps a day and i used to get them down at the same time and have a sleep also. I found that most of the time i was just sitting on the floor with both of them playing all day but they liked it. The 21mths was a little better as DD2 was a lot more independant. Its been busy but fun and only lasts for such a short time then they are at kindy.

    Author: busymum
Subject: 9944
Posted: 17 August 2007 at 12:21pm

Hi Ellen, I too panic on and off in the last trimester (and at other times too ), I had a 19m gap and then a 17m gap between my girls. Part of the 'easyness' depends on the personality of the toddler but for the most part I find the gap works well. Need to change a nappy? Change the other while you're at it. Then the other things I learnt were to do sitting down times together (so I could rest but still give the older one attention) such as nail polish, hair brushing, shape sorting (Maddie is probably a bit young for that but she might enjoy trying), colouring, etc. If you don't already, put some of Maddie's toys away so that you can circulate half and half every few weeks to keep her interest up.

The best thing is that Maddie is probably still day-sleeping so you will regularly get moments where one or the other is sleeping and you can spend one-on-one time, or even when they both go to sleep at the same time! And when Kalem is home from school he'll probably enjoy playing with either of the girls and even help out with spoon/bottle feeding when that time comes.

Its not really that bad for very long either, Jack is just coming right now and 6 new teeth have just popped thru which I think was causing us a few problems. Try if you can to get Madison sleeping well before baby comes.

Just have lots of fun activities that Madison loves all organised so when you are tired and trying to feed a baby you can just grab something and give it to her.At the moment we have a box with playdoh, a bag of blocks and a bag with a scrapbook and crayons. We have them all in a cupboard so when he does get to play with them its so much more fun for him.

Does anyone have Madison during the week? Maybe you could start her in preschool or something for one day a week. When I was preg I thought no way would I put Jack in but now we are looking into it just so poor Caprece gets a bit of one on one time with me.

You guys will be fine and since Madison is so young she will forget pretty quickly that she was ever the youngest one.
