The fact that you have health insurance means that you can opt to see one privately which means that then you get to see someone trained in the field and can give you the facts straight away about her ears and you would see them sooner rather than later.

I just really want to avoid all the problems we've had with Mona who is now moderately hearing impaired, altho her specialist swears that her problems are just 'bad luck' rather than not getting adequate treatment etc. She had grommets and the perforations in her ear drums never healed so she ended up having two myringoplasties on one side and one on the other to patch the holes.

It taken the dr all of about 15 minutes (well thats how long it took for Andrew's) to get them both in, so he wasn't under the general for very long.

I would be asking to see an ENT for Mercede's ears to look at getting them put in, a burst eardrum really hurts (I can remember the pain from a few years ago) and the grommets will help a lot.

If the eardrum bursts by itself, it will let the fluid out but if it happens a lot, can cause scarring of the eardrum. Plus, before the eardrum bursts, there is a lot of pressure build up which can be painful.

HTH!!

And Mercedes has had two ear infections now and both times the drum has burst to let the gunk out. Does this mean she's less likely to need grommets coz her body gets rid of the gunk on it's own, or is bursting not a good thing, and the grommets stop it from happening?
I'm not even sure if that makes sense, I know what I'm *trying* to say lol, but can't make it come out right.
We had ongoing dramas with my SD's ears, but coz I didn't know her when she was a baby, I don't know how her problems started out.
