She was wearing her pink skirt and the 3 year old boy came up to her and told her she looked like a pretty ballerina and then asked his mum if he could dress up today as well. awwwwwww

Ella gets upset as well, when I tell her off. She knows she isn't suppose to do, but still wants to do it anyway. I read somewhere that young toddlers have no sense....which pretty much describes Ella at the moment. We always try and make sure the toilet door is shut now, as I have visions of Ella getting into all sorts of trouble in there.

Daniel does something kinda similar, he likes sharing, if hes chewing on something (whether a toy or food) and you are right near him he will stop and put it up to your mouth, if you don't make an effort to appear to be sharing with him he will keep bashing it against your mouth until he is satisfied you have had enough and then go on chewing again hehehehe.

Daniel is sick though. He has croup and he seems to have my nasal/sinus issue according to our GP. When I get a normal cold my sinus' swell up and i produce waay too much mucus and it all gets blocked and I get an infection (within a day or two of getting a cold). And I do this every time. Daniels sinus' are apparently quite swollen, poor dude and hes got a temp 38.5 for the last 2 days ... She has decided that everything on the floor has to be passed onto Mummy so spends all day walking around picking up everything and passing it to me. One good thing is that now instead of throwing food on the floor if she is finished eating she just passes me the food instead......is very cute and definitely cuts down on the cleaning. wonder how long this phase is going to last for.

She has also decided the last couple of days that she wants to take her PJ with her EVERYWHERE she goes. As soon as she gets changed in the morning she grabs hold of them and drags them around the whole house and goes to sleep cuddling them. I think they are turning into her comfort blanket- luckily she also has a nightgown made out of the same material (merino wool)so I can give her that to cuddle up with at night.

Hes walked around pushing toys for almost 4 months too .... and could "walk" holding our hands from 3 months. So I guess you can't really tell how long it will take from furniture walking to actual walking --- cos its like hes lost interest! haha. He can walk with just holding one of our hands now and stand briefly - but no real progress on that front for almost 2 months now! (thought he'd walk early but maybe not!!)
Of the 12 bubs in my coffee group - apart from the 2 walking already - the rest have been pulling up/walking around furniture for between 4 and 2 months, and no actual walking. One of the walkers probably walked around furniture for 3-4 months and the other only about 2 or so. No sure if that helps Shell.

Jake may be over walking, but he is trying to say words now. What he says for bye and ball sound very similar but he says them when waving or looking at a ball, so I think he gets the idea.

Slapped cheek is going around my daycare too. I think Jake had it when he was little tho - a mild case but he had flu-like symptoms then came up with a rash on his cheek. We didn't take him to the doc cos he wasn't too bad - but talking to the nurse we thought that may have been what it was. I hope so ---- cos they can't get it twice.

    Author: Shellis
Subject: 7548
Posted: 01 June 2008 at 11:06am

Hi all,

We have been having a bad time with Paige the last week. She had been refusing sleep at daycare and then was waking up during the night so tired. Then on Thursday she had a high temp. Took her to the doctors and she had ear infections in both ears and a virus called slapped cheeks where there cheeks are really red and can look like a rash, and the same on feet and hands. So were we thought her cheeks were red with teething (3 breaking through together hence why we thought the issues with sleeping too) but was actually a virus. Throw in ear infections and no wonder she was having problems sleeping.

You feel like a crap parent. We had been giving her pamol for teething which is a good thing to do for the other two issues but she is been blasted with antibotics and now she is sleeping through again reasonable well. It is hard because the temp only came on Thursday but you make assumptions due to previous stuff and then you find it was something different altogether... Oh well she is on the mend but I don't wish ear infections on anybody, it is so hard on them. The slapped cheek was the probable cause of the fever.

By the way, for those who haven't heard of slapped cheek (I hadn't), it has two other different names too but it is really common, easy to transmit because you are contagious prior to rash so you don't know they have it but once rash arrives not a problem anymore! It is called slapped cheeks because that it what it looks like, they have been slapped on the cheeks. Their feet and hands become red with it too, especially obvious in bath because heat agitates it. It can be really obvious with a rash like redness but Paige's was red like teething, no proper rash. It is the feet and hands being a bit red that gave it away to the doctor.

Oh well she is now just as active as normal.

Poor Daniel, hope the swelling has gone down !!!

She is walking around furniture, pulling herself up on everything and interested in everything. She will take a couple of shuffling steps if we have hold of her hands but isn't stepping off furniture alone which I am pleased about. How long did it take for those who have walkers to go from furniture walkers to walking???

Enjoy the long weekend all.

Doc was happy that his muscle tone is good and that its just a matter of him putting everything together to do things. He doesn't really have motivation though cos he's happy to just sit and really study his toys he's not trying to get into everything else. Plan is to see them again in three months and if he isn't pulling himself up and cruising around furniture by then we will see a team of specialists to help with his development. Sounded like mainly physio. The doc said that sometimes they are a little behind and then just suddenly catch up, so hopefully that will happen.

If I'm holding her when it happens then its really hard not to drop her because she just goes feral! It basically lasts until I calm her down, she gets over it or she gets distracted. I don't think he's been too fussed about it. His commando crawling gets him everywhere he wants to go so hasn't really tried to stand. I think he's going to be well over a year before he starts walking.. at a guess I'd say he will be 15 months or so which is fine by me! lol ... it will probably take me that long just to get DH to learn not to dump everything on the coffee table so Daniel can get at it!

He started moving to one but at daycare will only have about 1.5 hours in the morning so still has 45mins in the arvo. He goes down about 10.15/10.30 for his morning nap - and can sleep for up to 3 hours at home, then doesn't need an afternoon one. If he sleeps 1-2 hours he will go down again about 3-3.30ish for 45mins. If he only has one he is a grumpy tired mess by 5.30/6pm and I struggle to keep him awake til about 6.30 (normal bedtime is 7). But if his afternoon nap is too late, he isn't tired enough at 7pm some nights. I guess over the next month or two he will go down to one nap.

Jake seems to have got over the whole walking thing - he has been pulling up and walking behind toys for almost 4 months, and can stand alone but only for a few seconds (and no improvement in the last month at least) ... but he seems content to get around crawling and holding on to things so isn't really trying to walk or stand for any longer. I think hes been concentrating on other things!

Oh - gotta go - hes awake ....

He usually goes down between 11 and 12:30 (depending on what time he gets up in the morning which lately has been 8am) and if its closer to the 12 mark i try to get some lunch into him then he will sleep for 2-3 hrs and then up til 8-8:30pm (sometimes later) but if weve been out and about in the car its a whole different story. He knows "no" but still tries to do it and looks at you to see if he can get away with it - i dont think so. So then when he is moved away he will throw a little wobbly and i just walk away he gets over it pretty fast.

He would battle his morning one but then when he didn't have it he would pass out straight after lunch but then would struggle to stay up till bedtime after only having the one nap. He was sick about 5 weeks ago and went back to having 2 sleeps and so far so good. Probably won't be long till we are back to battling again. I wasn't sure what to do about it either, it seems that he didn't really need 2 sleeps but that 1 isn't enough, IYGWIM.

Spencer started daycare on Monday and it went really well, not even a glance at mummy when I left and when I went to pick him up I was able to have a look and see what he was doing before he spotted me and he was having a great time reading a book. He crawled towards me when he saw me so I went and picked him up but straight away he was wiggling to get back on the floor and play. Is sad for me, but good that he has settled in so well. He didn't sleep there though but they said that is normal for the first few sessions. He goes again today.

My antenatal group is doing a joint birthday party and i think we will probably leave it at that. Would be different if we had grandparents etc over here.

Spencer is still so far away from walking, he doesn't even pull himself up yet and is still only commando crawling.

But I imagine they spend time moving around until the mouth is full. We will see, not worried until she is well and truly grown up and all teeth are there.

I can't believe they are starting to turn 1. I am organising Paige's party which is great fun but I haven't finalised everything yet. I just hope the weather is nice!

On eating, we give Paige some food with a spoon (we feed), give her the spoon near the end if interested (not so much of late) then finger food. So we make sure she eats something decent then gets to eat/play with finger food. She likes food though so it isn't hard... New favourite is purple grapes !

I did. I got sleep in, breaky in bed (that i had to share with Brae & Kal lol) No chores for the day & a new cell + dinner was cooked for me

Jennz

Nikki- Glad Jake is enjoying daycare

Toy libraries are the best arent they!?! WE only pay $20 for the year + $1 per toy hire for 2wks + 1 duty day per year. So many cool toys, costumes, DVDs etc We even have a mini rolla coaster ride at ours & lots of cool ride-ons, which sometimes need a trailer to take home

The warehouse had a swing & slide set on sale the other week. So we spashed out & got it. Its a 2swing set so we put our bubba seat onto it for now for Kal. So great swings, its my babysitter when im outside & the grass is too wet for Kal to crawl on. He was in it the other day when i was mowing the lawns & i turned around & he had fallen asleep

Kal is almost walking these days, he will take 3-5 steps unaided then plonk back down on his butt. He can also go from crawling to standing without holding anything. No doubt in bout a month he'll be full on running. His new scary trick is to climb onto the couch or coffee table & stand there without holding on He can even reach the bench!! Damn tall kid!! Yes the house is a tip ALL the time. My boys will watch me clean & pic up everything then come along & tip it all out again LOL So ive learnt not to tidy too often

Brae had a wee gap between his top teeth, but they eventually grew into the "space" Kalyx on the otherhand did grow a front & side tooth then the other front & side come up, so had a huge gap for a while. But that was on the bottom

Ok that was my ramble Off to post a pic of the sleeping, swinging Kal

Hes used to food in jars now! Hes just generally being more fussy at the mo too .... age? or teeth? Who knows! Ate a huge dinner tonight, after not eating much at dc for lunch! They do sammies, toast and fruit pieces for am/pm tea, so hes fine with the snacks.
They had to give him his own spoon today and make silly noises to get him to eat - good grief!

Still no crying, and we're on day 4! Doesn't look like he will get upset - seems to love daycare! Spencer thinks that its fine to bite my, mostly he tries to bite my fingers/hands but will also bite my shoulder and has bit my chin. He has 5 teeth so it bloody hurts when he does get me. He seems to do it more when he is teething and I try giving him other things to bite on which sometimes works but biting mummy is always more fun. I tell him "no, do not bite mummy it hurts" he understands the tone but it doesn't stop him trying again 2 secs later. Also removing him from me isn't punishment as he is quite happy to be on his own

    Author: Jennz
Subject: 7548
Posted: 11 May 2008 at 9:56am

Aw thanks for the hugs guys- its been coming on for a while but finally had to admit that something wasn't right and start getting some help. Wish I was back in NZ with a bit more family and support around but I'm getting there Managed to avoid meds so far so am hoping that a few things I have in place are going to be enough to get through it all.

Kate gets food envy all the time too! She growls at me if I eat in front of her and starts yelling if someone doesn't share. I used to let Charlotte eat her lunch at the coffee table in the lounge sometimes but I can't now as otherwise Kate harasses her the entire time- shes such a piggy!

She was really unsettled yesterday, last night and for her naps today, and also really dribbly so I think she might have another tooth coming through. I had to actually get up to her last night at around 4am- it almost killed me! Its funny how you get used to sleeping through so when they have a rough one it really knocks you!

Well the weather is gorgeous here now- we were up to 26 today and it felt way hotter out in the sun. We had one of Charlottes friends birthday party and it was out at this amazing farm park thing- the kids all had a field day, it was a really lovely day out. Hopefully it will be nice again tomorrow- we're going to buckingham palace to see the changing of the guard because we haven't got around to going there yet.

Hope you all have a lovely Mothers Day Especially for you first timers! We had ours a while ago but I had a reminder on my mobile to call Mum tonight so I didn't forget it was NZ mothers day

Don't feel bad about the formula happy mum = happy baby remember

We are on about 4 breastfeeds a day too with another one chucked in at night every now and then too. But the little monkey has just discovered how to bite me she bites and then starts laughing. I hope she gets over it pretty quickly because its not fun.

I don't even know how much food Caprece eats, about the same as Jack tho (and sometimes cleans up Jacks food too) She has just started pointing, its so funny we were at the airport and she was pointing to the planes in the sky, so cute.

LOL Marisa on Spencer staring at everyones food. We call Caprece Giraffe neck because shes like that, always poking her head around watching everyone.

Happy mothers day tomorrow for everyone

Its hard for 2 nights, but then they get used to it and everyone is alot happier getting a full nights sleep!! He doesn't even wake desperate for a feed now (can play for ages before I get a bottle ready now that I'm not B/Fing) .... so I know he really doesn't need one if he wakes.

Have a great mothers day tomorrow everyone!!!!!! Hope we're all spoilt!!!!
