I've got a twin one for the gremlins but have kept the single one for the odd time I'm out with only one baby so it doesn't get much use.

I never bothered with the bassinette fitting for my girls, we never had basinettes at home either they just went straight into cots. But the basinettes look cool, and we did borrow one for Mercedes when Sienna had her surgery and it was comfier for her than just the normal buggy.

We use the bassinet out in the lounge for Kaleb to sleep in during the day and it is great for him when we're out so he can sleep flat. I also have an attachment for capsule which i use if I am only going to be a very short time (so he doesn't spend too long crunched up in it) - much prefer him lying flat and can pull foot muff over him and shade/insect cloth - much more snug!
For the model you are looking at you might want to see how long it is - our one seems quite long and I hope we will be using it for some time yet. (My cousin had a Valco one and they used it for about 4 months before shifting their little boy into the seat...)

I got a stroller first and did all the checks on it - sturdyness, roomyness etc etc as I knew that with no license that it was the only way to get me and bubbah around. I was right and have worn it out already! Bad choice in pushchair though, I should have gone with a mountain buggy - hydrolics are important!
I think that if you are car worthy and will only need it for shopping and other minimal distance walking, pick yourself up a snap-n-go (It is a baby capsule with push chair attachment) I am sure you could hire one? Or a mountain buggy terrain on trade me with capsule holder attachment (should be around $60) for the first 6 weeks then use your big stroller

Will you have a baby front pack or sling in the meantime? Otherwise you'll be carrying but in that first 6 weeks it's a lot easier to go shopping with DH or a friend anyways.

The question about the bassinette fitting is a good one to consider though. If she will only fit it for say, the first three months, then half of it will be "unused".

I would really like to get this particular stroller, but we can't afford to buy it ourselves so to be given it like this would be really awesome.

Trouble is, it would mean we're either without a stroller or using a borrowed second-hand one without a bassinet attachment for the first six weeks or so.
