So yep, it's mum's gene and I carried it

Apparently a sign that children are prone to excema is when they get cradle cap in their eyebrows... sounds like an old wives' fable to me, but there you go.

And now I just want Briona to get rid of her malloscums because Krystiana is suspectible to them, being an excema girl.

    Author: Maya
Subject: 6774
Posted: 15 April 2007 at 8:02pm

Absolutely. Food allergies, exczema, asthma and environmental allergies/hayfever are all what they call 'atopic' conditions. It's possible to carry the atopic gene but for it not to be active, or to have the gene and have only mild reactions, but if you carry the gene you can pass it on to your kids.

I don't have any allergies (except penicillin but that's a long story) and had very mild exczema as a kid, but I obviously carry the atopic gene as all of my girls are prone to exczema and/or allergies. My brothers and sister all have some atopic tendencies too, worse than mine, so will be interesting to see if their children are affected.

I hope this makes sense? I'm just kind of rambling a bit

    Author: busymum
Subject: 6774
Posted: 15 April 2007 at 5:25pm

Does anyone know how excema genetics work? My mum has dairy excema (too much milk = facial excema) and my dad has heat excema (grow a beard or wear woollen underwear = excema in that area). I inherited the heat rashes off dad and Briona has got it off me. I think Krystiana may have had a couple of heat rashes too, but she has also had pimple-like spots on her tummy from being unwell (colds etc) so I'm not 100% certain.

Anyway Kryssi now has a spot on her face which looks to me like excema but isn't a dry heat kind of excema. It looks a lot like what my bros and siss had as little kids, ie mum's excema. Does anyone know if it's possible for me to have passed on mum's excema to Kryssi, even though I've never had that kind of excema? If that makes sense lol
