McKayla just loves her cream. You must see her rub it into her tummy. She brings the bottle to you and you must just pour.

On the subject of touching. McKayla doenst really play as such but she does touch now and then. I dont say nor do anything about it.

I see is as harmless exploration and all kids do it. If she is going to start playing ect I will teach her that that stuff happens in private with no one around. I dont want her to think that it is dirty or perverted.

But right now I think she thinks it is part of her body like her nose.

LOL, good topic! I have been wondering about "names" lately too.

I call Joeys bum "popo" (german word) and say either penis or "pimmel" (german word, like diddle or willy I guess). hehehehe sounds funny when I see i written down

Joey is always playing with himself - just like Lizzie said with th Al Bundy comment, lolol He seems to find comfort in just standing with his hand(s) in his pants, the only time he really plays with his penis is in the bath. He often goes for it while I am changing his nappy, and usually when it is a pooey nappy of course, I guess telling him off is wrong because he will get the wrong idea and I don't want him to get "dirty" ideas about touching himself either. re the touching thing, Cailin loves to help and she always wants to wipe, but I don't allow her to do it, but have been trying not to make a big deal out of it because I don't want her to think that it is dirty to touch either. Oh, and on the original topic we've taught our kids "vagina", "penis" and "bottom"... Kiya knows the difference, but for some reason has recently started refering to her whole nether-regions as her bottom! Caused me major confusion when she had an itch recently and was having a scratch in front while explaining she was "itching her bottom"!

Teresa, I've gone along the track that the child can touch, but it's their business and therefore should be kept private. They have to keep their hands out of the way while I'm changing their nappy (and I use the word "messy" rather than "dirty" to avoid the connotations of it being wrong) and I wipe/wash their hands if they have grabbed at themselves during the change (regardless of whether it was a pooey nappy or not), and I've taught Kiya to wash her hands after touching herself.

Josiah's not quite beyond only touching at nappy changes or in the bath yet, but Kiya is. I've tried to teach her that any touching she does there is private, so to stay in her room! She's got into the habit of holding her crotch recently because she had an itch, and now that the itch has gone she still grabs. This leads to a good point... do you try to discourage "playing"? They *all* seem to go through stages of touching in nappy changes and I know there's a certain amount of exploring their own body but I'm hesitant to promote that or to make them feel that area is shameful or "dirty". So far I have just used the excuse that it's too easy to hurt yourself there so don't touch. We use Bum and Zaara knows what it is. However I never used any thing for vagina.....however when I change her nappy and she touches her self there...I say "Dont Touch" ...because I am changing her and now every time I say Dont Touch she touches her self there...Crap I think thats what she thinks its called! when i was younger we use to call it "tontons", "hamburger" and well i wont say the others as these are gross enough!! there is just no nice word for vagina is there, I mean diddle, wizzer, doddle etc are all non offensive names for the lads, but for us girls we have a choice of names that just like jacobs Mum most make me cringe, they are all very adult like names and just crude.

DH hates it when I say giney to Abigail, so he has to suck it in. The older kids know the real names of their bits, but ever since he was two Jayden has called it his "nugget" for some reason and it has stuck. So although he knows it's real name we refer to it as nugget and at least that way when we are out and he says at the top of his voice "Owww my nugget hurts" no one else knows what the hell he is talking about. Not sure when I will use the words vagina with Abby as she has the habit of repeating new words over and over again which could cause some very embarrassing moments. She calls it her bum. I used to say whizzer, but now I say diddle and bottom or bum, and he knows what they are, and can say all of them (diddle, bottom and bum) I asked him this morning if he knew where wees came from and poos, and he knows, he grabbed his bits. We usually refer to front bottom and back bottom... or the whole as a bottom. Sometimes there is reference to "where my wees comes from" etc and I taught Hannah what her anus was the other day (which incidentally is very different from bum in my opinion!!). But I added that it's "private" to talk about anuses lol, to help curb any tea-time conversation which would otherwise come up.

I don't know when I'll introduce "vagina"... nothing wrong with bum to me - if i was refering to his anus i would call it anus - but i havent had a need to yet... penis is used here but we also refer to it as a willie too - i am of the opinion that they need to know the correct names but they dont have to be used all the time as slang words for privates are always used too and i wouldnt want my child to be laughed at for not knowing what a willie was...

Well I call McKayla's bum her bum and then in Afrikaans there is the word Paddatjie for vagina that usually gets used although I havent used it get. (it is afrikaans for froggie)
