yeahc, if only there was a magic wand.

just spent the night at my SILs as my brother was away, hadn't seen my nephew since about Christmas. Was so lovely seeing him, he's so cute and loveable and gives great cuddles....but it often leaves me feeling so sad too. He was due a month after our miscarriage would have been due, so he's always a reminder of what i'm missing out on. Right better bury my head in my books, big assignments to get done....find some other mental disorder to diagnose myself with!

Thanks JR - just hoping there is actually something good to transfer later.

Oh they don't actually ship the embryo - they take a biopsy of it here in Wgtn, then freeze the embryo and send the biopsy (a cell or 2 from the trifecterderm...the bit that becomes the placenta) down for testing. They're going to test our frozen ones too - so I hope they survive the thaw/refreeze and potential thaw later for transfer! No Idea what type of couriers they use - theres probably special ones for medical products.

Glad you're seeing the psychologist. I've been trying to get an appointment with the counsellor but between her schedule and when my husband is at home, I couldn't get one til late April. Could do with it now! Sorry I just kinda disappeared. Life all got a bit hard really, with trying to make IVF decisions, too many ppl, family deaths and family illnesses. I think things have quietened down now...just in time for IVF #5 which is doing my head in.

I am doing ok thanks guys, keeping busy with work helps. I have my blood test in 4 days and I am starting to freak out a little. You know I have a history of multiple chemical pregnancies (17 in just over 6 years) and the cause has never been found (although I suspect an auto immune connection but have been tested for everything and nothing has ever come up). So I am wondering what difference IVF will make to whether this is successful or ends up as another CP. Anyway I am trying not to think about it too much and meditate lots which is helping.
That's great Kel that you are under a specialist in maternal mental health. I think if this IVF is successful I will need it to!

Yep maternal mental health is a specific service, under resources as far as I know, it's available for PND too, it's where I want to work as well as fertility counselling when I finish studying. Glad you're getting some support Kellz

That's good that you got one. No frosties for us unfortunately as they weren't quite viable enough. She did say that the embryo we had transferred yesterday though was a "real beauty" though so here's hoping this works out.

So I am officially PUPO! I had one good 4BB embryo transferred this morning. The other two are not quite at blastocyst stage yet so they are going to call me tomorrow to let me know if they can be frozen. It nearly didn't happen though as when they were doing my transfer they couldn't get the tube thing through my cervix. He said I must have a little endo in the muscle of the cervix which was blocking the path. Luckily he finally got it through after a few tries which is a relief as otherwise I would have had to have my embryo frozen.
So now I have to keep my mind occupied until I test next Monday. I hope you are all enjoying the long weekend :)

Anthea, Shatavari is a herb traditionally used to boost ovulation as well as general fertility and libido. From memory it helps to boost your good estrogen which helps you ovulate. Hey garcat hope your coping with waiting ok. Saw your question in the other thread re exercise - they say no swimming for a couple of weeks post EC to avoid getting an infection. Otherwise they say you can continue exercising the same as you were prior to transfer, but avoid increasing your body temp too much. Getting used to the pessaries but not liking sticky undies. Will invest in some liners!

Definitely kinda showing customers are looking at tummy and thinking better than asking lol.

No real tips other than set a reminder in your phone I was good in beginning but forgot later on causing loads of stress. Nurse at FA here said to wet your finger to help them stick I found it did nothing.

7.5 weeks is awesome RD, once you get through 7th week your chances are really good.

Thanks for the insight Kellsz. The EC was not as bad as I thought but apparently I was totally out of it so maybe they gave me too much of the sedation drugs!!
They managed to get 5 eggs in the end which they seemed quite happy with for someone who is 41. So here's hoping they fertilise and I get a good embryo. Yep having a few treats now as a reward!

Bet your glad the needles are over for a few days, as per CC the hcg shot will help those egg is mature. I have also heard instances sometimes of more eggs gathered than counted but that's the thing with IVF it's totally unpredictable.

Good luck for EC, the drugs are good you will honesty not care. I had a wee cry when I got there and chatted with embroologust. But worst bit is the IV line going in.

I had my follicle scan today. There weren't that many follicles so I am a bit concerned about that. They only found two on the right ovary (they were good size though) and about 3 smaller ones on the left. So the odds aren't looking good. I have to go to Hamilton tomorrow for another blood test and scan with FA. oh thats interesting, I'll have to investigate. Yeah i'm hoping Andrew can organise the hysteroscopy as a gyno thing rather than a fertility thing so my health insurance covers it....would possibly mean i get to have it under general...not that i'm hugely wanting general, but my friend said had no sedation when she had it through the clinic - just took pain killers before hand, and as the scratch i had was painful enough i'm not sure i want a hysteroscopy with only pain killers!

yeah the numbers of follicles - eggs - embryos is another mind F@#k, that takes a bit to manage...i haven't found a way of coping with that easily yet.

if you like, i can give you the email address for Winnie - she's the counsellor through FA who I liked the most, but I think she does private sessions. I reckon a fertility counsellor would be best rather than a general counsellor as its a special kinda of grief/anxiety you're dealing with which they know about - winnie did her studies while going through IVF. I remember reading a post about someone getting their gp nurse to administer intriplids significantly cheaper than FA no idea if that's possible or right but could be worth looking into. If you have health insurance could there a medical reason for a hystersvopy? Yeah its a fair bit of money if you get no answers.

Exciting things are hopefully about to kick off Garcat, my cycle was so quick I think I had egg retrieval on day ten I feel a bit like a cheat.
My advise too is when they do folicle count don't count it as gold they counted 12 yet we only 6 eggs which I found really upsetting.

I should go see a councilor as I think it's likely to get worse I just seem to be coping by head in sand. I am almost to scared to eat or drink anything due to listeria. Flower remedies could be a good idea I have found them good in the past.

Yeah naH...Wellington is nothing compared to Auckland. Everyone going there was well dressed too, I felt far too casual!

They've suggested another hysteroscopy before doing another cycle (costs about $1200), suggested we could trip intralipids ($500 plus another $500 if we get pregnant), and suggested Pre-genetic testing which is about $3k a time....so could do that on the ones in the freezer, and then if unsuccessful would probably need to do again on any embryos from a fresh cycle...he did say it'd be more efficient to do another fresh cycle, get all the embryos and test the fresh & frozen at the same time, but that might not be allowed under our fertility cover plan. Yeah could email Andrew, but waiting to get the summary from Auckland so I know Andrew knows what they've suggested.
Yep sucks that money influences decisions esp when you don't know if they'll help...and annoying that it'll push out our time frame too.

Yeah the long protocol does start to drag garcat...Theres no usual length of time...depends on how you respond...around 2 weeks I guess tho.

Kellsz, you could try bach flowers to help your fears and anxiety. Go to a health shop and get them to make up a specific remedy for you. May help to take the edge of things.

AFM I Had my blood test to check how the puregon injections are working this morning so hopefully its all about to kick off with IVF. Its been such a drag to get here. How long do you usually take the puregon injections for?

Yeah i did wonder if I should have tried getting an appt with Repromed rather than another FA clinic - but that would have been trickier as I would have had to get a paper copy of my file and take it with me - and I don't think Andrew would have been able to get me a last minute appt with them.

FA Auckland have swanky offices! He hasn't really suggested anything majorly different - a bunch of things that most likely aren't covered under Fert Cover so if we decided to do them they'll cost us a ton more $$ that we don't have. And because of our 3 week holiday coming up we prob won't be able to talk the options over with Andrew til mid Feb, so will prob have to delay our next transfer til we've been able to have another conversation with him.

Where are you up to Garcat?

Sorry I have been MIA been a really busy week in clinic as well as work. Probably not the best lead up to IVF but at least it takes my mind off it.

JOP Folic acid is important thoughout pregnancy and breastfeeding and not just in the first 12 weeks. So if I were you I would keep taking it throughout. Glad all is going well with you. You will be feeling movement soon, I started to feel bubbles at around 15 weeks when I had my son.

CC my period is always heavier and longer after a CP but it doesn't really make the next cycle come any earlier. Maybe it is your cycle getting back in to balance after the IVF drugs. Glad you are ok too. Where are you going on holiday at the end of the month?

Heya, I'm lurking.....just a bit peopled out and over things. Had 3 nights away which was nice - given me enough strength to get to our actual holiday at the end of Jan.

Had our WTF appt today, he basically said the same thing....persistence and numbers game. Talked about getting a second opinion with him and he actually helped me get an appt at the FA clinic in Auckland when I'm there week after next.

Scan went OK. It confirmed I had down regulated a week later than expected. So its all systems go with the rest of the cycle. I start my testosterone patch tomorrow and puregon on Tuesday. I can't wait to reduce the bureselin injections as I am hating the night sweats. If this is what menopause is like i am not looking forward to it!

How are you going JOP? I am getting concered about CC, we haven't heard from here for a while which is not like here. I hope she is ok. Yes I don't think I could bring myself to buy anything yet if I were in your position. However it could be a positive reinforcement to your self and the universe that it's going to happen, so may be you should get something small.

Arrgh night sweats every night are not a pleasant side effect of the Bureselin supressing my cycle. I have to go to Hamilton for a scan tomorrow and I have tickets to the cricket at the Mount so I will miss most the the game :(

Garcat: Breakthrough bleeds are so confusing huh. I have read pretty common though in your protocol. Fx it confirms your on track, hopefully your doctor figures it out soon!

I'm not sure when I will accept I'm pregnant my best mate who is staying at mo said I need to buy something small each pay till I feel it.. Not sure if that's a good way either.

CC that's no good about your abdominal pain. It's probably related to digestion and nothing serious but I would get it checked out as soon as you can in case it is gallstones or kidney stones which can be quite common. If its digestion related you might find aloe vera and slippery elm might help.

Having a break through bleed at them moment so hoping this is a good sign that my hormones are trying to follow the schedule.

JOP I can understanding you feeling detached at the scan. But remember once you are passed 12 weeks the chances of miscarraige reduces dramatically. You are having this healthy baby growing inside of you! Oh good to know about the cancer thing. We've had cancer get very close last year so it's in our mind a bit more. Going away for a mini-break on the boat for a few days, if still bothering me when I get back I'll go to the Gp. From what I've read the fertility drugs and cancer link is nothing to worry about. I think even FA has it on website.

No it's different to gas pains. Wondering if my appendix is grumbling, but also have some stabbing up under my ribs on the right which I've had for a couple of months off and on. Yeah it was pretty cool, but reinforced how removed I am from it. Having major tummy pains today hopefully just gas but really stressful.

Well had another blood test today to check my estrogen has gone down and it has gone up!! Why would that happen?! So I have to keep suppressing my cycle with Burselin until I can get to Hamilton to do another blood test and scan this time with my FA doctor next Tuesday. So I am a bit bummed that everything is on hold until they can work out what is happening with me. It would appear my body is not responding to the drugs as it should be!! Oh that's rough that your scan place is covered in pregnant Ppl. I keep seeing bumps and new babies everywhere-I have to be careful as I keep looking at them - ppl will start thinking I'm a weirdo stalker soon! I'm sitting at the blood test place waiting for a test to Tell me I'm not pregnant, luckily not so many pregnant ppl in there today.

We're goingo to a concert tonight, will be nice to do something different. That is so awesome that your 12 week scan went well. Don't worry about the fibroid they are so common and I have 2 of them in my uterus and I had one there when I had my first son. So you got to see your little baby for the first time JOP how amazing is that!
I know what you mean about triggers. Being in Medex radiology yesterday lying waiting for someone to do my scan surrounded by pregnancy scan pictures on the wall was quite hard. And sitting in a waiting room with pregnant women when you know they are only going to scan your empty uterus.
The testosterone patches before Puregon injections is supposed to increase production of eggs in poor responders. I guess they gave them to me because of my low AMH and age.

Have a great New Years Eve! Any plans for tonight? I guess I can't really have a glass of wine. What do you reckon CC?

Not good about the triggers, often they hit you out of nowhere. This time of year seems to make it harder too.

I struggled at scan place a few stressed out people there.

Yep DH is here. Past couple of days including today have been filled with triggers. Welcome Garcat, sounds like a bit of a hook Har for sure. Hopefully its smoother sailing from now in. They could have removed ultrasound probe!

I know when I was having my bloods done they were changing owners or brands and something and it was chaos, almost labeled my blood wrong.

I'm good had 12 week scan today was freaking out big time but all is well there (still paranoid though). They found a fibroid and said something about placenta being towards my back and will need to keep an eye on it getting too close to cervix. Not sure what this means but nothing is straight forward eh.

I made it!!!!

I have just posted on the old thread. I have just copied it over to here too:

So i have stopped my pill on Monday and had a blood test on tuesday to check down regulation, however apparently my estrogen was too high so they sent me for an untrasound this morning to check to make sure there was no activity in my ovaries. Went to the scan this morning. To start with I had a trainee do it and she couldn't even find mu uterus which was a bit of a worry! Anyway she left me there with the scanner thing in place for 15 minutes which she went to find a more experienced colleague. She eventually came along and did the scan very quickly. FA confirmed later the scan was ok and there wasn't much activity going on in my ovaries which is good.   On the way out Pathlab rang to say that they had messed up with my blood test yesterday and only tested estrogen and not the full blood count which FA were chasing!!. So they asked me if I wouldn't mind going back for another blood test. So i went straight away but it was so busy and had to wait over 30 minutes ggrrr. The worse thing is i have to have a repeat estrogen blood test tomorrow to see if my estrogen has gone down because I am supposed to be halving my bureselin dose and starting testosterone patches on Friday. So that will be 3 blood tests in 3 days! I feel like I am being poked and prodded!
