Author: MNB811
Subject: 44213
Posted: 28 July 2014 at 11:31am

I struggled with an eating disorder for about 7 years - anorexia & bulimia. I'm totally healed now, have been for nearly 5 years... and am pregnant with my #1, due in March 2015.

Putting on weight during pregnancy doesn't worry me so much because I know that as long as I'm eating nourishing foods and being conscious of what I eat, then the weight I put on will be what's needed to grow this little baby. However, even though I'm totally free and clear of the eating disorder, it does worry me a little about losing the weight after baby is here... but I think that most mums share the same concern, I don't think that's because I had an eating disorder once :) And I'm just telling myself that I'll take one day at a time, post-baby... (and I'm guessing that I'll be way too busy looking after baby in those first few months to worry about a few extra kilos!) :)

The other thing is... when you're struggling with an eating disorder, it does take up all your mental energy. And I don't mean this in a critical way at all but having an eating disorder makes you selfish - as in all decisions you make relate to yourself and the eating disorder you're battling - you don't exactly have a lot of energy left over to think about other peoples' needs - do you get what I mean??

So, I would seriously recommend dealing with the eating disorder before having a baby... because once a baby comes along, there's not going to be much room to think about yourself - it's going to be all about the baby. If the eating disorder hasn't been resolved, it may mean that post-pregnancy (the extra weight, looking after baby 24/7) may be a major trigger.

All the best to you,

Hugs!

I put on 9kg when pregnant, it was all belly. Lost about 6kg just after delivery and took about a month to get rid of the other 3kg.
I think you should sort your eating disorder before becoming pregnant.
Everyone is different and yes you might gain a lot of weight during pregnancy but is worth it! And shouldnt be too hard to get rid of a few kg if you eat healthy and exercice 2-3 days a week.
Good luck :)
There are no suppliments to adequately nourish your baby without the need to eat and gain weight. The risk of mc aside, the baby can be at risk of low birth weight, premature delivery, growth issues to name a few. You will gain weight, Ive gone up 8kg at 20 weeks while being very active and eating a healthy diet. I put on 30kg with my first, different people gain in different ways. I had an eating disorder which took years of treatment to sort (along with other issues) and I also think my low weight contributed to my mc before this baby. It was a kick in the pants to get to a healthy place.

My question is last October I had a miscarriage due to my eating disorder. I would like to try for an other pregnancy but I'm really afraid to have a second miscarriage. I still don't eat much. I know I need to eat healthy for the baby but I've that fear of becoming fat!! What should I do? Can I take some food supplement without eating too much? Or should I forget my idea to have a child?
Thanks!!
