If you give birth at Birthcare I believe you get a private room anyway?? It's a good option as it is a hop, skip and throw away from Auckland Hospital in case things don't go as planned...

Definately depands, with no1 I gave birth at night and went home next morning. This one if all goes well I will only stay the minimum 2 hours required. Ah thanks Binkle! I just watched the video on that site. It made me cry! LOL! just the idea of going in and coming out with a baby is so overwhelming :) Might help to actually get UTD first Wink

Haha…. does depend on the hospital also. I am used to working in small places where there isn't necessarily birthcare available. Thats interesting I really was under the impression after about 4 hours you go to birth care or home.

I know I should actually conceive before thinking about these things but Im not keen on birth care. Only cause Id want a private room and its like $400 a night!!!!! Id rather spend a night at the sky city grand and pay for someone to teach me to breastfeed there. Would prob cost the same and be way nicer ;)

It's depends a lot on feeding as well. If you have no problems breastfeeding you can go home sooner than someone who is struggling a bit. (Also applies to bottle feeding). Basically they like to make sure you are going to manage at home. So physically, emotionally and baby wise if everything is all good then you can go as early as a few hours after the birth. It largely depends on you and how your birth went. For a vaginal birth it could be 1-3 nights, perhaps a little longer with a c-sect. If all went well and you are happy you could probably go home very quickly (My sister and I both gave birth to our first babies in the evening and we were both home by lunchtime the next day - both were straight forward births.)

f for example i birthed at Auckland hospital and didn't want to stay at birth care how long until they discharge you from hospital?
