Maybe just in case you should have some support networks ready to go and plenty of sick leave on hand (if you're working) just in case. She had to take strong codiene tablets the whole way through her pregnancy for the pain and did a lot of bedrest while her parents and DH helped look after first child. Luckily her second child is perfectly fine and like you say the pain resolved as soon as her baby was born. All the best!

First time around I had bad morning sickness for 17 weeks, I was even bedbound with it for 2 weeks of that! I also had a traumatic birth that ended in a emergency c-section and a sick baby and me for a few days.
But this time even though Im 4 years older (37) I've had no morning sickness at all. DH and I decided an elective c-section would be the best decision for us after last time. So hopefully that will go well too.
All the best and I hope you have a better run second time around.
I'm glad to hear that people have different experiences with different pregnancies. I know that i will have an elective caeser next time and that will eliminate some of the trauma, and also hopefully avoid any kind of brain bleed like my daughter had. The worst part otherwise was this "renal colic" which was the worst pain i dhave experienced in my life. At one point in the pregnancy they gave me 4 lots of pethidene in 12 hrs with little effect to ease the pain. Apparently it was a pregnancy related issue so it really does make me quite nervous! Also i had a suspected broken rib from my pregnancy which is still uncomfortable and will no doubt not feel the greatest if pregnant again. Oh well, i suppose there is not a lot of point

I also had SPD. DS got stuck during the birth which was a bit rough going (he was anterior) but we got there in the end.

My pregnancy with DD was VERY different. No ms and very little nausea, no hound-dog nose and less general tiredness. I still suffered from SPD but it was no worse than first time 'round. Her birth was very quick and straight forward, she almost managed to arrive all by herself.

I hope you're able to work through your anxiety and (when you choose too) have a lovely second pregnancy.

Edited by Stoked - 25 January 2013 at 9:39pm

I am sorry things were so difficult for you. It's not always roses for everyone is it?

I have no personal experience but I had a friend who had a very traumatic pregnancy and birth. She had to have counseling and prayer (if you're that way inclined :-0) before she could even think about getting UTD again. She eventually did and had a good pregnancy next time round - only complication being twins! I know that part of the problem for her was that she just didn't enjoy pregnancy and babyhood as she thought she 'should' but by the time she was UTD for the second time, she had worked through these perceived expectations and had learnt to just do what was right for her and be okay with it. I hope you find some answers and encouragement on here. Good luck.

I am interested in getting some feedback on other peoples experiences of subsequent pregnancies. I am not yet pregnant and actually the thought of having a second child makes me a bit anxious. I was reading through my medical notes from my labour and birth today and it brought back a lot of memories! I had a pretty horrible pregnancy with extremely painful renal colic, SPD, bad morning sickness and a traumatic birth. My wee girl had a brain bleed and seizures after birth. I am interested to hear how similar or different peoples second pregnancies were compared to their first.... Thanks :)
