We have an 04 Corolla. Check out the cost of insuring the different type vehicles, I downgraded from a subaru to a mazda and pay a lot less insurance now. Generally its turbo subarus that cost you more in maintenance/insurance than the bog standard ones but with most cars keep on top of general maintenance and you would be fine.

We have had both a subaru and a toyota. The toyota was more expensive to buy, but cheaper on gas and maintenance. The subaru was a lot cheaper to buy, and is generally reliable, but when it does go wrong, its expensive & complicated (we have subi legacy wagon). HX Subaru Impreza are really good on gas good boot room. Well its time for me to upgrade my car. I currently have a 3 door hatchback and with baby number 2 on the way I really need a 4 door.

I'm looking at either a 2002 + Subaru Impreza or Corolla (Allex). Any thoughts?
