I might try that then. I was going to call them and see if they had any contingency plans like that (they do postnatal and newborn help packages as well so would think they might have some kind of birth babysitting process). My dog kennel was super flexible with #1 (gave me their private number and told us if it was the middle of the night where to drop the dogs, we were able to drop them in the day, but still, very considerate), so now I'm just optimistic

However the sitter we got was absolutely brilliant.

The only hiccup might be that you have to nominate the day you need the sitter for when you book. They then send your request to all the sitters that match your requirements and one of them accepts the booking. So you wouldn't be able to book until you actually went into labour which might be a bit short notice, you would risk a sitter not accepting in time!

A way around it would be to try them out for a prior occasion first, and if you like the sitter you could discuss with her the possibility of a private overnight booking for when you go into labour. That way #1 will get a chance to meet them first as well.

I know our current childcare (ABC) has some kind of clause about the carers will not do outside babysitting work, but I can ask them if they have recommendations. I don't think too many of our current nursery teachers have kids themselves, but will see what they say.
Doesn't look like Anglican Childcare is in ChCh though.
Also looking at RockMyBaby- anyone used them? It's a service.

It's mainly because she finds it easier to stay than to go home, but she's very happy to be there as long as we need her.
Maybe try Porse? They have rates of pay for certain times of the night - eg a rate while the child is awake, another rate while child is asleep, and then an extra charge each time the carer has to get up overnight. It sounds complicated but it all makes sense really.

Also our childcare now (Anglican childcare) will provide carers overnight, and work on much the same charging system but are cheaper.

You must have both of those in Chch I would have thought?

Thet called the teacher at 6am and she came straight away to the house- she was there when miss 3 woke up in the morning and just explained where mummy and daddy had gone and she was fine. Baby was born noty long after, and her Daddy picked her up at 8am to go meet her new baby sister!
