The pies are actually from sheffield which is just done the road, and yeah, they are GOOD!

Darfield is a small place, but nice. Don't know about rentals though.

They do the best pies! Or they used to, anyway. It services the local wider farming community, so there is a bit more there in the way of facilities than you might otherwise expect. I 'think' there is a (small) supermarket, and the high school is doing some very good things. Friends of mine live there, they have two kids and LOVE it. Small, friendly community and the kids like their school. Handy to the city, but still a country life style. I've heard good things about the bakery/cafe there. I haven't spent much time in Darfield though. No idea on rentals, sorry. There is a little town, not sure about shopping as to whether there's a 4Square or what. It's not a bad drive to ChCh though for bigger shopping trips. It's about 30mins from Christchurch, in Selwyn... It's mainly a farming community I think. There's a river closeby. There's an earthquake fault (Greendale) close by too ;) I think it's a nice wee community that has all the basics and close enough to Christchurch for shopping etc... Can't help with rentals sorry...
