we have a 3 year gap between the youngest two, DD2 REALLY REALLY loves DD3!! so much so that she'll pick her up by the neck and carry her, gently place blankets over her face, feed her solids when she wasn't at that stage etc etc... so I have had to really watch what DD2 is doing with HER baby . DD was 3yrs3months when DS was born- she loves babies was very excited Mummy had a baby in her tummy etc, so
I thought it would all go really well when he was born. I had seen a lot of my friens have 2 under 2 and thought that we would have an easier time with DD being a bit older. The first 6 weeks were terrible- she was old enough to know that when baby was awake mummy was stuck feeding him and dealing with him and as much as I tried to include her, ghet her to help etc, she would turn awful when he was awake and I was busy with him- throwinng stuff, breaking stuff, not listening etc etc. She was an angle again when he was asleep. It made me upset and made me wonder what I had done to my darling girl by having another baby. It got better tho, she got used to him and that he needed me a lot, and she helped more and was happier. She was in childcare 3 full days 9-3pm and I dont know how I would have managed otherwise, even tho I didnt really want her to be there for that long. I was very conscious of the fact I had very very bad depression after having her, so we did what we had to, to try and stop it happening again, and having her in daycare was one of these things.
Although those first weeks were very hard, as DS got older started to smile at her etc, it soon became very evident that having another baby was the best most precious gift we could ever have given her! The love each other so much- they are 5 and 2 now and they are great mates. It melts our hearts when they hug and kiss each other when they wake in the morning, and when we catch them playing/reading/watching tv while cuddling each other ,...awwwww!!

DS1 was 3yr & 10mths when DS2 was born & it was a breeze compared to DS2 & 3 as DS2 was 17mths..that was hard work

It also meant that I had 1 on 1 time with each child & DS1 was not at a needy stage.

He was also quite into his little brother & was able to share well also which helped.

I think you will have a lot of fun

Me, it's great most of the time.
