I actually got the chance to ask an expert. She said it was like a feeling of falling of a cliff, not that they no what a cliff is. I know i sometimes get it when im asleep. Babies and toddlers also get it, and it freaks them out. My daughter often wakes in the night screaming her lungs out i give her a cuddle for about 30 mins sometimes i resort to a bottle and then put her back to bed. sometimes it takes a few goes if she is really upset. Hope this helps

I've just started back at work and she's in daycare so I'm wondering if she's just unsettled with that. The last two weeks she's woken between 9:30-11:30pm and has downed a bottle and then again between 4-5:30am. Not great when we're back at work!

So no real solutions from me, just another mum looking for an answer...

Then drop down the volumes by 30ml every second night, so slowly wean him from it later.

How long has he been at daycare?

He wakes once, somewhere between 11 and 12ish and normally I would ignore but the screaming is intense so I pop in and he is sat sobbing his wee heart out, I lie him down and he looks all sleepy but takes a long long time to resettle, I have started offering a bottle which he downs, he can't need it he is eating and drinking mega amounts at the moment.

Last night it took hours to resettle and I ended up cuddling to sleep.

Very unlike him, he has often stirred in the night but always resettles and even when sick sleeps through, so this is odd, is almost like he is stuck when he finds himself sat up and then can't settle.

other changes he is dropping a nap from 2 to 1 and when at daycare this can mean his total sleep for the day is 30 minutes, I am wondering if this is just not enough.

ideas - just a bit desperate as I am back at work now and the lack of sleep and I then start super early is taking its toll
