Thanks for your tips and advice ladies - this is a great thread!
I have a few recipes that I've tried - Had to stop using store bought ones a few years ago as I have Fibromyalgia and am now allergic to most chemicals... I make all of my own cleaning products.
On the instructions of my cloth nappies it says to use 1/2 cup of vinegar in the final rinse. It works fine for me - I've been using it for over 2 years on our laundry and it softens our tank water as well as cleans any left over gunk from the hoses of the actual machine.
I think I'll stick with vinegar but am thinking of changing to my eco friendly homemade laundry liquid for baby's clothes as well.

Hey new to forum. We use a wet pail with half a cap of napisan babycare dissolved in it, scrub any poop off first and soak them during the day. Usually wash them last thing at night/first thing in the morning so they soak for a good few hours. Where do you get pediasure from? I looked online and its $22 a tin and my boy would go through that in 2 days. He hardly eats. I have been trying him on rice milk but he does not like it much.

Hi Mummyof2ofeach, my daughter was on neocate for the 1st year of her life, and I used cloth nappies when she was big enough. She had green runny poo's until she started solids, so it was a mission with the nappies. I always used liners & always rinsed the poo off before washing. But I have always used eco store products but also use dettol or caneston in the dispenser and it seems to work well with my nappies. My daugther has graduated to pediasure now so it is wonderful to say goodbye to that green poo!! :)

Be careful using vinegar too often as it can deteriorate the PUL and elastic in your nappies as well at your washing machine seals.
Honey, if your home made liquid has Lux flakes I would make sure your nappies are rinsed super well as Lux can be hard to rinse out of MCNs.

Sounds like a good plan with the Dettol, Mo2oE. I don't dry pail either, I put them in buckets (separate inners and covers buckets) with water and a few drops of tea tree oil. OMG I didn't know that about the powder - I use Baby Cheeks OSFA nappies. I was thinking of changing to my own liquid - I make my own because I have allergic reactions to all powders... my skin just itches all over before turning into a full body rash - but with the home made laundry liquid I've never had a problem. Plus it's nice to know there will be no chemicals going through her clothes :)

Thanks for that. I have been useing white vinegar in with them for a week now ( funny you should mention the same hehe) and it has helped a little but at the end of the day what has helped is that instead of dry pailing them i scrub them clean then put them in the bucket till its time to wash them. No i cant change formula hun. He is on Neocate because he has a milk protein allergy along with alot of other things.

So here is what i am going to try
Rinse
Warm wash with Dettol stuff as above and rocken green
Rinse again

Hang outside for as long as i can. Oh and alway using nappy liners.

I have had some help from one of the lovely cloth nappy sellers. We think it is because on the Neocate formula in which we use for him.

I use to use the canisten and i had forgotten all about it lol. I will try that to. I have been washing on warm which has made no difference but hopefuly the canisten will help.

I've had no issues with the ecostore liquid, doing a rinse, then full soak wash (all cold)
Have you used any kind of nappy cream on his bottom or medications that may affect his nappies (I have read that Pamol can stain nappies, don't know if it's true or not).

I use Ecoballs (not by ecostore) and dettol sanitizer. Before that I had lots of problems with either too much or not enough detergent ending up with stinky nappies. I guess the Ecoballs don't work as well if your water is harder, but I've not had any problems. I use Eco Store on mine as well, but I also put a capful of Dettol antibacterial rinse or canisten (whichever is on special when i buy)in the fabric softener dispenser. Weird! I use persil sensitive, and just use a portion of a scoop, depending on how big the load is. Cold wash, just the usual settings, and I've never had that problem. I need some help.
I wash every day in eco store liquid. I normaly use half a cap full. My nappies are all only 2-3 weeks old as i needed to buy a new stash. Old ones nolonger worked for us. Anyway i put them on a rinse then a full wash then another rinse at the end. Then i hang them out on the line. If they have not finished drying i then bring them into the washhouse on the clothing rack to finish drying. My problem is the nappies that Ds has done a #2 in still stink That bad that if i put them on him again to use he just smells. Is it the washing liquid i am using? Should i use something like rock n green? Really unsure but dont want smelly nappies. Oh he also has bad allergies so i have to watch what i use on him.
