I also rang Plunket and they were quite helpful. I'm usually in two minds about Plunket - they have some useful guidelines and such but mother's intuition supersedes some things for me.

I need to crack onto the solids and apparently baby should only be having 5 bfs a day at this age (I know DS1 had more than 5 and that was ok, so 'loose' advice)

The nurse also recommended a graduated settling programme, with dad helping. It's something I'd like to try if my hub is on board. It does involve crying but I think a little crying is better in the long run as it's the difference between me continuing breastfeeding or weaning onto formula. The two hourly feeds are not sustainable.

Maybe he needs to go on a schedule?

Might pay to talk to LLL??? they'll have some good ideas maybe?

Can you get him up at 6.30am and do a "Dream feed" then, so he's resetting himself?
He's full from the feeding all night.

It doesn't seem right does it?

ETA: Because my husband looks after the three year old's wakings, I can't ask him to help settle baby during the night. I've tried settling him without feeding him but it doesn't work. He's hungry. And while two hourly is cry-worthy, it's quick and I go straight back to sleep.

Edited by JessDub

As you can imagine, this means I'm up to him two hourly to feed him. Then he isn't hungry for 6 hours from 4am - 10am. He's up for the day at 7am.

Any ideas on how we change this?

(He won't take a bottle, I'd really like for him to have a bottle of formula at night before bedtime. That'd be ideal but in the meantime, it'd be great if we could readjust the breastfeeding)
