Well I voted & now have the right to moan for the next 3 yrs

Hopefully next election we will have a government that will:
not sell off our assets
protect our most vulnerable
make tax cuts fair & across the board
take gst off fruit & veg
stop wasting our money on cars & planes for PM
oh & the list goes on & on

Would be nice to have a government in that can take control over major disaster & we in NZ have had a few over the last couple of yrs & they have not handled them well at all...

Here is an interesting video for anyone who wants to watch it. It is long but well worth it. It's one of the reasons I was voting for the Lefties - the R&D policies.

And also, I know I'm in the minority (obviously, after the weekends results! ), but I am not so confident about Nationals ability to get us through the economic downturn without costing the country a fair bit.

Some interesting Labour/National term comparison stats.

I know, I know - the election is over and done with but I still find it all very interesting! We shall see what happens in the next three years!

ETA - yes, most definitely the blog is left wing so the interpretations of the graphs will probably be biased (I didn't actually look so much at the interpretations as the graphs themselves.) - but the graphs themselves are from Trading Economics who collect data from the IMF, World Bank, Statistics NZ, the Reserve Bank of NZ, etc.

I am so relieved that National got back in!! What a terrifying thought that Labour may have been the ones to try and get us through these awful economic times.

I hope that they can work with the Greens, I think that in their leaders they have a really strong party and I think their environmental policies are really good for the most part.

I also hope they can work in with the Maori party again, just a shame Mana took so many votes off them. Whats the point in voting for a party whom neither major parties will work with.

As for Winston - shudder...

Totally agree AzzaNZ about the wasted chance to vote.. Although I got the outcome I wanted to not too worried hehe.. So how is everyone feeling about the results?

Me: I'm a little disappointed but didn't really expect it to be any different. I hoped it would be different but didn't expect it. Ah well, NZ has spoken and you have to accept that.

I hadn't been a big fan of Phil Goff until these last few weeks. I think he did well - it's a shame he left it so late in the game to show some real substance.

I voted for the Maori party. I was surprised to see that they had such a small percentage of vote. I would also have voted for Greens and Labour but was trying for a little strategy vote in the hope that National would have to form a coalition including the Maori party and that the Maori party would provide a little balance.

I also voted for MMP and if we had to change to a different voting system, voted for STV.

Good on the Greens for getting so many more seats in Parliament!

I actually haven't been that into politics until this election. I think even if you dont feel strongly in favour of any party you should still vote.

You could vote strategically - so for whoever is most opposed to the party you really DONT want in power. Or you could spoil your vote which is a statement all in itself.

Quite a good site, because you don't know for sure who's policies they are describing.

It only gives you the top three which is a little annoying and also doesn't actually tell you which specific areas/policies are attached to specific parties - so it is a flawed system but still may serve to give you a better idea of where you stand.

To add a little more controversy to the thread - I'll tell you my results of the quiz:

First attempt: Mana 72% then Greens 68% and Labour 67%
Second attempt: Labour 66% and a tie for Mana and Maori at 64%

Pretty surprised at the results that put the Mana party in my top three. I'm not voting for them even though apparently according to the sheep I like their policies. I don't like Hone Harawira. I'm such a hypocrite! - I had been going to say in my opening statement that the policies were more important than whether or not you liked the party leader or not.
