we travelled a lot with DD before she was 8 months. From Auckland, to Te Anau and back up again. I agree with the if they are asleep keep going philosopy! I remember we travelled heaps with DS1. First time (6wks) I was worried about him spending too long in the capsule etc, but quickly got over that. Our policy was - if he's asleep, keep driving
I agree with newme, we'd plan to start a trip before his best nap &/or leaving really early in the morning also helped. Especailly on a hot day, I'd want to get to the destination before lunch even if it meant starting at 4am. Crazy you ask? we drove from christchurch to Invercargill when DS2 was 4 months. It took longer (about 10 hours!!!) but he was fine.
I would leave just before she is due for a sleep, and have some toys so she can play in the car. I would say have one decent stop on the way and have a feed, play, nappy change etc, and then just keep going. Hey Everyone :)
