I (female) have a balanced translocation. We have been lucky enough to have our first child naturally, but then went on to have three miscarriages (all around 8 weeks) and found out at that point about the translocation.
We are considering PGD but I would love to connect with others who have been through the experience. I am CHCH based but happy to chat to people from anywhere.

It's so reassuring to know that through PGD you CAN get an embryo with balanced chromosomes. We were lucky to get two, both put in and one surviving. We know that we are SUPER lucky. And the best bit is that it's with my husband's sperm, after the head of Fertility Plus trying to convince us to use a sperm donor. I'm now in my second trimester with a little gymnast bouncing around in there. I wish you all the best for your next go. Keep me posted.

We actually found the experience to be better than we were expecting, difficult but we had prepared ourselves for it.
We also had a positive test through using fresh embryos which we were excited about. All blood tests after were positive and promising also.
When we had our 8 week scan, we found out we were expecting twins as the embryo had split after implanting. Unfortunately the twins we transfused and therefore at the 8 week scan there was no heart beat and therefore had lost them. The day before the scan I felt really really yuck, which is when they expect that I had lost them unfortunately as had normal morning sickness up until that date.

I wish you every success for your journey. Look forward to hearing how it goes for you.
We are due to start our next PGD circle very shortly so hopefully 2012 is our year!!

So conceiving in the first place is an issue with us, with hubby having a handful of sperm frozen. We're on our first round of IVF now, I've had 3 burserilin jabs so still a wee way to go.

    Author: Topkat
Subject: 40739
Posted: 13 October 2011 at 3:10pm

Hi there.......yip we have a small thread in the infertility section but its not used often.
I have a balanced translocation and wanted to let you know I have had two babies natrually who werent effected by the BT. So it does happen, most of the time its just waiting for a healthy one. I've looked into PGD but was told my chances are better continuing to try for our 3rd naturaly as the process is a long one and not alway sucessfull. It depends on your own situation also I won't carry a baby effected by Bt to term or even very far along my body knows baby is'nt right and doesnt let it implant, pretty smart really! So I'm prone to chemical pregnacies (they are over before they have even started.)if this was'nt the case I would consider PGD Depends on the breaks in hubbys chromosones if they are large small etc.
It's also different for women and men I only get one chance each month eggy might be healthy might not. Atleast with sperm there are more of them Feel free to PM me if you have any questions I only found about my BT 6 months ago after having my babies

My husband is the one with the chromosome translocation, which means that we can count his sperm on one hand. I know our chances are really slim but this process wouldn't be available if there was no chance at all. Has anyone out there been successful?
