Author: monkey33
Subject: 39851
Posted: 12 July 2011 at 7:43pm

Oh I hear you on this one!!!! DS has been doing this since his first teeth came through & on & off regularly since then. We go through phases of a couple of weeks (in the early days I think it was well over a month) and then he just goes back to normal one day - 12 hours per night.

We have tried all of what you have mentioned aswell and we then started bringing him into our bed. He used to go straight to sleep once in our bed but now just lies there away and tosses & turns - he doesn't cry but he knaws on his dummy so I am 99% sure it is his teeth (have checked numerous times for ear infections at docs and nothing!). I got 3 hours sleep on Friday night as I couldn't nod off as I knew he was going to wake and he was then awake from 12 to 3am before he finally dropped off.

We thought that perhaps he is just getting into the habit of coming into our bed or having us come & see him but it doesn't happen every night during the phases - usually every 2nd night. He sleeps anywhere from 40 mins to 2 hours during the day and he still wakes even when he has had the shorter naps, so don't think it is that.

We are currently going through a phase again and really can't wait for it to be over!

Hope you have some more luck with the self settling

    Author: schnooks
Subject: 39851
Posted: 12 July 2011 at 1:54pm

Yep same thing here - maybe once - sometimes 2 times a week, she has woken anywhere between 12 and 4.30am. I got her up because she went from grizzling to crying. She didin't really want cuddles, so on way to lounge to see if she wanted cuddles there, she pointed to the kitchen cupboard and wanted one of those only organic sachets of fruit puree. After guzzling that down, she cuddled in and out of sleep on me on the couch for over an hour or so. First couple of times, I put her back in the cot and she cried/grizzled for a bit - maybe 5-10 minutes.
Another time, I got her up, had sachet and cuddles, read her a book in the cot and she didn't grizzle when put back in cot.
And last two times I have got her up, had sachet and quick cuddles then back in cot and she playts with her toys a bit and goes to sleep.

So I guess she was just hungry? I don't know really, now I just make sure she eats heaps for dinner. She has not done it for last week or so - touch wood!
Good luck - hope it ends soon for you

ETA dd is 18 months - hmm need to update ticker!

Edited by schnooks

Did discover though that just doing the same thing each time they got out (i.e. putting them back to bed - no conversation etc) eventually worked.

It ahd nothing to do with teething, being hungry etc - it just was.

good thing is that it does stop

Jack used to do this alot when he was teething, wouldn't cry but would be awake for ages. Took me a while to work it out but a bit of pamol and he was back to sleep, I just assumed that they irritated him rather than hurt and it was difficult to sleep. Ben can be quite restless as well with teething but very rarely cries with it.

DD goes through phases of doing this fairly regularly, and I know there are a couple of other Dec09 babies that do the same thing. Does she need to be going to bed earlier/later?

Is she cold/hot? Is there something noisy going on outside her room?

Or maybe she's just a bit of a ratbag?
