So we kept going with the straw. He'd also drink a bit more from a pump bottle before then. So I'd just keep trying the straws or other ones every 2-3 weeks and he'll eventually start drinking more.

He would only drink such a small amount of water it really worried me. It took a good month before he started to really drink from his straw cup. So just some reassurance that I'm sure he will get better at drinking more fluid. Keep offering it and he'll get it!

Congratulations. His not wanting day feeds could have something to do with his age - wanting to be on the go, looking round, doing things, but could also be due to your pregnancy and the change in hormones =)

Kelly mom website has some good info on breastfeeding and early pregancy http://www.kellymom.com/nursingtwo/resources/pregnancynursing-faq.pdf

Depends when you were planning to feed until I suppose =)
If you find a good cup that works for me, let me know as my lil guy thinks sippy cups are for throwing on the ground =)

So maybe if he has a coupld of decent feeds and wet foods he doesn't need too much at this time of year.
I found DS picked up his water intake at 1 year also, so might take a while for him to get used to it.
Final recommendation, we used a Nuby cup which has a suction sipper straw - so the water stays up the straw when you're not sucking - which makes for a quick reward when they do suck. Worth a try, if he doesn't get it straight away - he wont be far away from it :)

At that age I had various cups/sipper bottles and she would just have acess to them all the time. There would be a few dotted around the house in her favourite spots and she'd grab them if needed. But as for how much she was actually drinking, I've no idea to be honest!

My DD hated drinking water until I got her a sipper cup with a straw, which is all she uses now. She drinks a couple of bottles a day easily, more if its hot or shes really active (but she doesnt drink milk so compensates for that too).
Try out of a pump bottle, normal cups, different sipper cups (with or without straws) or anything else you could find.
Good luck

ETA her bottle is about 300ml. I think at this age they should be having around 600ml (?) of fluid a day, which includes milk so if you think hes getting enough, I wouldnt worry to much

Edited by KerryLea

Jacob seems to be weaning himself off his daytime feeds - he'll still have a good feed when he wakes up and when he goes to bed at night, but he's been playing around in the daytime and both times when he woke up today and I offered him a drink he just giggled and pushed my boob away. But he doesn't seem to drink much water either. I usually offer him milk when he wakes up (and assume if he says no he's not thirsty) and a cup of water before he goes to bed, since now he's staying awake longer it's been a while since he had a drink and I'd hate to put him to bed thirsty. He'll have a sip or two of water, but that's it.

I'm not too stressed, I know he knows how to drink water when he is thirsty, so I suppose he can't be - but I did think it was a bit unusual! I drink a lot more than that - and he probably runs round more than I do!
