I recently went to the Airforce Museum in Wigram with my lil' guy (who was a bit too young, lol) but my two nephews enjoyed looking at the big plans (nearly 3 and 18mths)... it's not a huge place so doesn't take long to look around really, but it's free

There's always a walk around the botanic gardens (I don't think they've been too badly affected, though correct me if I'm wrong).

We went to Sumner for the first time since the quake on the weekend and that's always a good morning/afternoon out. We park at Cave Rock and then walk down the boardwalk to Scarborough to have lunch/coffee. It's pretty spectacular to check out the cliffs on the way as well (or what's left of them).

Places we've been to eat recently are the Brew Moon and Nor'wester in Amberley and Mud House Winery at Waipara. If you're Nth ChCh it's not far to go. Also Pegasus Town is a good day out if it's nice weather. I've got visitors from the UK here for a couple of days. The usual suspects of things I'd do are pretty much no-go (gondola, tram, city, beaches) so what else would you guys do? We are Northern ChCh so have the options of Willowbank and Orana Park (they've got no kids but obviously I have). Don't mind travelling but don't won't to be in badly affected areas when I have no good reason to be adding to the congestion.

I am not overly keen on going any distance as it would be a long drive to Akaroa/Hanmer/West Coast with one of them jammed in the back between the carseats and Mr.1 isn't always a happy traveller!

I am hoping that they are just pleased to see us and have a good catch up but being a dutiful host, I always like to be able to entertain my guests. Thank goodness they are only here for a couple of days otherwise I think we'd all have to go away for a bit.
