The nuby 9mo+ straw sippy cups are drip proof. the sippy cups I got are spill proof and hard to suck water from.I did get a exceptionally cheap one from New World ($2.60) but she didnt take to that either but it wasnt spill proof. 5mo shouldn't need it especially if she is being breastfed.

The 2yo might like to own her own bottle. My 2yo will gladly cart one around the house all day (when allowed to!!), yes she drips it at times but it's water and the weather is warm. My DD didnt really start drinking till about 7 months old, I just gave her my pump bottle and she soon worked out how to suck the water out. I brought one nuby cup from the supermarket, it has a handle on either side and a bit that sticks out that they can suck on. I just have it sitting down on the floor with her, and after food I always offer it. Thanks so much for your feedback.
OK, so i will still offer baby daughter some water and when start solids soon, will offer more. Can i just clarify.... sippy cup... one that the water comes out when tipped or is is drip proof, meaning water has to be sucked out. I know this may sound like a dumb question but i'd like to know. She is bottle feed.
Do you think that it is important to have the water in a totally different vessel than the milk so there is a definate distinction?

Any tips for my 2 1/4 year old??

Is your baby breast or bottle fed? If breastfed at this age, regardless of solid intake, breastmilk is plenty fluid enough as long as they are feeding regularly. Even if they are bottle fed, I wouldn't worry about it too much - I would offer but certainly not be expecting them to have significant water intake. My DD1 was bottle fed and I introduced a sippy cup to her more as a plaything at around 6mos, she didn't really get the hang of drinking from it until just after she turned one. We used a sippy cup or a normal cup for water to start with, the novelty factor and they aren't expecting milk helps.

Has she started solids? We started offering water at about 5 months but she never really drank any/much until about 7 months old and even then it wasn't until she was 8 months and we got her a straw sippy cup (easier to drink from imo) that she would be drinking about 2-400ml a day of water!

Take it slow, I often just offer it with meals and leave it on the floor for her to pick up and drink from when she's thirsty... I also offer throughout the day but don't panic or get upset, etc if she doesn't want any, just leave it nearby and she may change her mind!

My parents never offered me water until I stopped having bottles (about 7 - I was VERY attached lol!) and I still to this day struggle to drink water! Hi there
Hoping i can gather some suggestions.

I really want my 5 month old to be able to drink cool boiled water but she screws her face up and doesn't take any. I have it in the same bottle as the milk i give her, but with a different teat.

The reason i am so paranoid and anxious about her taking water is that with 1st daughter we never really offered water much, she just drank her milk, and we now have a terrible constipation issue with her. After a lot of trying with foods added (prunes, kiwi, bran, watermellon) and eliminated (bananas, stodgy foods), homoepathic treatment etc, we are now on Dufulac for her. But i truely reckon her problem stems from not enough fluid.
We are now enforcing water and diluted juice drinking -30 ml/ 40 ml before she has anything to eat. We offer it constantly but she pushes it away or takes the tiniest sip and says no more. It's like getting blood out of a stone though.
And i really do not want 2nd daughter to end up with same issues.

Can anyone suggest ways to get the water down for both girls at their different stages. Am i right to expect a 5 month old to be able to drink water.

Any comments/ suggestions are much welcomed.
