Can't be much fun.
My toddler gets runny poos whenever he's been put on antibiotics, but I also figured out myself that straight cow's milk caused it when he was about 1.5yrs old and he's had soy alternatives since.

I'd recommend trying plenty of acidophilus type stuff to get some good bacteria back in the gut - we give a pinch of Inner Health Plus Powder every day. also the BRAT diet for a few days to see if it settles things down? (bananas, rice, applesauce & toast).

I don't know much about that though.

One thing I did that helped was to write a food diary of every single thing that Gabrielle ate and when she pooed and how bad it was. That helped me cut out things that were making it worse and things did improve although it didn't go away. Does your DD have really bad nappy rash as well? My DD had terrible nappy rash because the poos seemed to burn and also I guess because of the frequency of the pooing.

    Author: Shelt
Subject: 35702
Posted: 12 September 2010 at 7:21pm

To be honest I really have no idea what to say but...my DD went through almost 2 months of this at about 14 months I think and still occasionally has the odd week that its really bad. I actually have no idea what causes it but I know that for her dried fruit of any sort makes it worse, as does wholegrain bread, carrots and capsicum for some reason. I had her tested by the doc and nothing came back so I am really none the wiser but I did an awful lot of reading on the net and this apparently is a very common problem with toddlers. One of the theories I read said that when they go through a growth spurt sometimes their digestive system takes a while to catch up and can cause these types of issues. My DD also eats sand and dirt which doesn't help

I have her on probiotics (mainly to support her immune system) which I don't think made any difference to her loose poos. One thing I did try was making sure she didn't eat too much fruit (no more than 2-3 pieces a day) and subsituted veges for the more processed things in her diet like crakers etc. I also tried to make sure she was drinking enough water. One theory I read said that if a child is constipated then sometimes this shows up as runny poos as they have a blockage and the poo "overflows" round the blockage.

I don't know how helpful any of that is but I sympathise. I know what its like to be constantly changing disgusting nappies and washing clothes stained with poo and its horrible. Hope things improve for you really soon.

GP tested her poos for giardia and any other bugs and causes of runny poos and it came back negative.

I've had her on a lactose free diet for 2 weeks.. She has cooked lactose (eg, if I'm doing macaroni cheese for dinner) but she doesn't eat "raw" milk, cheese or margarine...

It all started after visiting my mum for a couple of weeks and she started giving DD milo and milk - cold as a little drink... She gave up drinking any kind of milk - formula and cows milk from 15mths old... Her everyday diet before the milk was re introduced included a yoghurt and cheese and normal margarine on her sammies..

I'm out of my mind over this - her poo runs down her legs, it absolutely stinks and I think it burns cause she grimaces when she passes it. Not watery like diareha but very loose..

Can anyone offer some advice..?? Do I just cut out all milk - including the soy milk she has with her milo / cereal and see how we go or do I take it further..

Pribiotics..?? Gut cleaning antibiotics..??
