If you want to give him some wind down time i'd pop the bouncer by a window and let him look at trees, birds, cars etc, my 1 yr old still enjoys having a good old nosey.

i have had a couple of chats with friends this week re tired signs and we decided every baby is different. With us its droopy eyes and eye rubbing, one little girl tips her back and others are jerky. Not much help but I think its just often a matter of watching them to learn their special trick. I still get wrong 12 1/2 months later.

The first 6 months are very hazy but at that age I think DD lasted 1 - 1 1/2 hours up maybe?

    Author: KatzWtgn
Subject: 35273
Posted: 16 August 2010 at 8:20am

Not sure about the routine thing, as we don't really do that, but here are some play ideas:

If he loves kicking his feet, give him something to kick against that makes a noise - I use the alumium (sp?) tray you get from the back of family size pies.

Tie some ribbons to a coathanger and pass that back and forward over his face.

Blow bubbles! and let him watch (just use dishwashing liquid)

He will love you touching him and touching you. Blow raspberries on his tummy and feet. Lie on the floor and let him roll and climb on you (I know he will still be little, but my DS loved starting to clamber on me at around 3 months).

Play songs with his body like row, row, row your boat with him sitting on you and rowing his arms.

Play aeroplane with him lying on your calves and you roll backwards (this is great for your tummy muscles too!

Play is also just about new experiences -- I take DS out into the garden and let him look at leaves. When I make a cup of tea, I give him the box of tea to hold and look at. He's now up to grabbing the tea bag out of the box and dropping it (with help) into my cup! (Naturally, I keep him well away from the hot water)

Give him things to smell -- DS loves me holding him up by the pantry and letting him smell various things in there.

Put on the radio, ipod, etc and dance around the house with him.

Get a blow up ball (like a Swiss ball) and roll him on the top of it.

Hold him up to a mirror with you and make faces into it.

That's all I can think of for now!

    Author: Speck8
Subject: 35273
Posted: 16 August 2010 at 7:18am

My 3 month old DS used to give a classic yawn when he was tired, but now I find it very difficult to tell when he's tired, especially since he's reached the 3 month mark so I am conscious that he may be able to stay up for longer.

So this is how we roll - we follow the eat/play/sleep routine, so he wakes up, I feed him, change him and then we play. Usually we start with tummy time and do that for a few mins until he cries, then I lie him on his back under his activity gym and we do that for maybe 10 mins until he cries, then I try lying/sitting him on me and singing, reading a book etc and we do that until he cries and then lastly I put him in his bouncer until he cries and then I put him down to bed. He can usually last in his bouncer for quite a while so I figure if he's crying in there he must be tired.

Does that sound about right??

Also, I'm getting a little bored of our wee play routine and wonder if he is too so any ideas on what else I can do with him would be great! We do go for walks when the weather is fine.

Thanks in advance :)

Forgot to add - he sucks his fists from the moment he wakes up and always has quite jerky leg movements.

Edited by Speck8
