Cooper was about 3 1/2 months, I started with night-time, so opposite to some of the others as we were using the hammock during the day. I did the same and hung the bassinette in the cot to get him used to the room, and that worked fine. Then instead of rocking the bassinette all the time to resettle I started patting and shushing - at the same time to start with and then I tried instead. So when I switched we had a new method. Jacob was 7mths when he moved into a cot and isabella was 9mths ( i think) when she went into cot, jacob was small at birth (5lbs 1oz) and isabella was tiny too (3lb 1oz at birth)
I just moved them into cot straight away they were fine .

Ella was 6 weeks when she moved into her cot for her daysleeps and 3 months for her night sleeps (it took me that long to get up the courage to move her out of our room).

 

Tom on the other hand is still in his bassinent and will probably be so for at least another 3 weeks (basically until he outgrows it). He has slept a couple of times in a portacot at my parents and was fine in it, so will probably just put him in his cot cold turkey.

We just moved DS straight to the cot, I thought I would trial his day sleeps and see how that went, but in the end decided to just leave him in the cot and not swap him too much in case it confused him.

It worked great for us, he was 8 weeks when we did that and we had no issues whatsoever, we use a Safe T Sleep too.

ETA - To make the transition easier we had him sleep in his room in his bassinet, for maybe 2 days.. then straight into the cot. I would occasionally jiggle the bassinet too but he didn't seem to mind at all that I couldn't do that.

I think DS was about 4 months maybe a bit older, we also started with the day sleeps in the cot and also I think I might have tried a night sleep in his bassinet in his bedroom.
Only reason I moved him was coz he was getting too big and was hitting his little arms on the sides.

Actually rereading your post, I see you are asking for ideas on making the transition to day sleeps in his cot easier lol...we started off by day sleeps in his bassinet in his bedroom so he got used to his bedroom but honestly that was about it!!! We are just thinking of doing the transition this week, as we have been moving house and didnt want to do it twice. About 12weeks here. I did start off about the start of the week (monday) and just started with 1 nap during the day in it (couldn't believe how while she slept!) then the tuesday she had 3 sleeps in it and did very well! Then the wednesday she had all her day sleep in there and dp said to try her over night and she slept really well too! So we transitioned over the course of 3 days.

We used to jiggle the bassinet too! TBH she didn't mind not being jiggled. We ended up getting a mobile at 3 months which she loves! I ended up moving DS into the cot at around 3 months. He was getting to big for our bassinet. I did a few day sleeps in the cot to start with and then just moved him (although our cot is in our bedroom right next to my bed). The move went so much better than I expected.

Hi There,

We have DD sleeping in a bassinet that we move around the house as we need to, and sleeping in our room at night. I would like to start getting her to sleep in her cot for some of the day sleeps, and keeping her in our room at night for a little longer.

I am wondering what age people have started the transition from bassinet to cot - and how you have made the transition easier?
