I really  our Woombie. So glad you liked the woombie! I have found ours really good. He knows it is sleep time. I used to wrap Gabrielle in a cot sheet. It was massive but it did the trick. When she got to about 9 months I switched her to a peke moe and she loved that. great news that the woombie is helping. Its still like a swaddle, its a zip up one, but its more stretchy than the ones I had been using.

I just got the one to start with, may get a second one too now that I know it works.

 

It comes with a leaflet that says it may take some adjustment as it has more give, should really have trusted them aye.

I've had the Woombie for about a week now and our sleeps have drastically improved, from 30-40min at a time to 1.5-2hours.

I'm so pleased with it.

 

It did take a couple of days for him to adjust to it as its quite stretchy so he does have movement, but I think that is probably a good thing.

I went to Spotlight and got their super-wide muslin and after washing and shrinking it was about 120cm wide, and 140cm long. There is a large size Kiddopotamus Swaddleme wrap that you can buy. I found it quite difficult to find as most baby shops only stocked the small size. haven't read all the replies but we have Aden & Anais wraps which were plenty big enough for ds at 6 months when he weighed 9kg. I found that using Sharlene Poole's (baby Whisperer) swaddling technique which involves making an extra fold at the shoulder before you wrap it around the back, worked really well for keeping the swaddle tight so he couldn't escape it

With my youngest I would use a single sheet. Cut in half and hemmed. (or just folded over) This would be to swaddle.

I would then use another sheet and put it under the mattress ie sheet on base of cot and hanging over rail then put mattress on top. Then I would pull it tight and it wouldn't pull out from under the mattress and then pull it tight over bubs and tuck it in. The single sheet needs to be long ways accross cot not the traditional way that you would make a bed. This worked like a safety sleep as there was no way bubs was moving. Sheet has to be completely under the mattress so that you end up wrapping the mattress with bubs in it IYGWIM.

Well, I have him wrapped in two muslins at the moment. One the way you explained Linzy and the other the same but instead of starting with baby on the wrap I have the wrap starting on his chest IYGWIM?? He has now been asleep for just over an hour. FX he stays down, but that is the longest day sleep we've had in a week.

I use plain muslin wraps (have since birth), but the big ones and they work just fine. I use the GR8X swaddles on Ben and they are great, really stretchy. You can get them from Baby City and a few other places I think.

I think Lexiesmumma wraps the same way I wrap Ben. You have the wrap in a triangle with the long straight side at the top and the point at their feet. Place their shoulders long the straight side with their arms down their sides. Take the corner to the left of them and wrap it straight across their body and tuck it as far under/around them as possible. Do the same with the corner to the right of them. Clear as mud?
The GR8X wraps are really stretchy and you can wrap them quite tightly. Ben very rarely gets out of it, usually I go to get him when he wakes and he is still lying perfectly wrapped

I've been wrapping him lately with 2 muslins, one over the top of each but he still wriggles out of it. Mainly as he wakes after the 40min mark and usually stirs a bit and then back asleep, but with the stirring at the moment that is when his arms escape and he's then wide awake. So, it really does kind of need to be an actual wrap.

Would be good if you could take a pic Bex cos I don't really understand

is it the arms that he needs wrapped T or is it the whole body, We have just been trying this new wrapping technique for the daytime where instead of wrapping over top you wrap underneath them, so it only wraps their arms. Its a bit hard to explain, but you lie them on top of the wrap then grab one side go over the top of their arm and then under their back, and the same on the other side. Have you considered a woombie? You can get them from comfortkids.co.nz and trade me. They go right up till 11.5kg and they can move their hands around in it but not up to their face. DS is 6 1/2 months and has been swaddled for sleeps since birth, without it he just doesn't sleep well. However, at the moment he is in a SwaddleMe for 6-10kg, he is just shy of 8kg, but its looking like its too small and he is getting one or both arms out during day sleeps which is resulting in 40min naps.

So, can anyone recommend a good swaddle for older/larger babies??
