Awww, misscheeky - flattery will get you everywhere!

Babywearing can get some getting used to, if you haven't done it on a regular basis until now.

I can't say much about these african baby carriers, but have heard they are modelled on the Ergo and sound like a bargain.

That said, I am a stickler for what I know is a good brand and good quality design / production, so am quite happy to shell out more money for something like a Manduca / Ergo / Beco (whatever takes your fancy).

Definitely adjust and readjust until it's as comfortable as you can get it, and otherwise if it's still no good then yep, you probably need to try something else - luckily there are heaps of really good options out there now.

I find it can depend on the carrier and your physical make up- a MeiTai I made wasn't that comfortable but Ergo was fantastic.

You can hire most carriers now before you buy, so that could be a really good way to make sure you're getting something comfortable. Check out the Slingbabies website for information about positiioning etc, and if you're in Auckland, head along and try the carriers out.

ETA - also pays to check how you've fitted it like the others said. I've worn Dan on my back with a well-fitted wrap and had no problems even while walking for 1 1/2 hours, yet another time when it and he weren't positioned right, was in agony after 15 minutes.

Try making sure the waistbelt is sitting on your hips.
Make sure the shoulder straps aren't too tight. Its the waist not the shoulder straps that takes the weight. I used to do mine too tight and it gets sore

I tried an Ergo for DS and I now own a Manduca and once I got the fit right I haven't had any problems, I can comfortably wear him for ages even when he tries to play peek-a-boo.

I would say it's likely that the fit isn't quite right for you. OK, so I am sick of carrying around my clingy 14month old, so I have borrowed my sisters baby carrier to see if we both like it.

The carrier I have borrowed is a cheaper brand one 'african baby carrier', but if I buy one I will get an ergo (I think). This one seems quite similar though.

Yesterday I tried it (carrying her on my back), and DD loved it. But I had to take it off after about 1/2 hour as my back was really sore (about half way down on my right side of my spine - probably muscular pain).

Does this mean I am wearing it wrong? Or is it the cheap pack?
