Eventually your body will realise it doesn't need to produce the milk and you'll dry up! Good luck!

Dont think I will have enough milk tonight. Super guttered I have had to give up thou but its sooo hard trying to eat right when I have to also make sure Soph is satisfied as well as gettng meals and everything for DH too

Kinda looking forward to a break and fresh air when we start calving and can get toned too

I hear u on waking at all hours, its horrible eh? Author: T_Rex
Subject: 34618
Posted: 14 July 2010 at 9:51am

Hey Lou,

Sorry to hear your DH is on crutches. How long is that for? Hoping he'll be better by calving for ya?

Anyway, I just wanted to put a different slant on it (and feel free to ignore me if you want), but if you don't want to give up BF, you could still manage it. I've just gone back to work last week, and I'm able to call in to daycare 2-3 times a day and give DD a quick feed. It's actually quite nice time out for me and I'm guessing you live on the farm and will be coming in for meals etc too? It means she's a bit less demand fed, but I figure routined BF is still better for her than formula.

I'm still up 3-6 times per night too, so I know how hard it is to go to work on such terrible sleep. Perhaps you could put her on formula for the night feeds and get your DH to do those? And then BF her during the day. Bodies are wonderful things, and it could mean that once your DH is back to work, you'd be able to switch back to fully BF because your supply would pick up again. Of course if you are going to be working over calving I can totally understand if you want to remove all other strains on your body, cos calving is hard work!!

But I just thought I'd throw that out there for ya too

    Author: tiptoes
Subject: 34618
Posted: 10 July 2010 at 1:25pm

I feed 4-5x a day about 150mls each time, sometimes 200mls at night for his last feed. I worried for ages that he wasn't getting enough but his weight is fine and he's happy so must be getting enough. I try offering about 20-30mins later too but he either bites it or thinks it's funny, so I'm guessing 150mls is all he needs.

She might start dropping some of those night feeds as the formula will probably full her up more.

If I was really full I'd express off quite a bit with a pump to feel comfortable, or otherwise I'd massage out the lumps and hand express the rest of the time. When we stopped DS was dropping feeds and preferring bottles anyway, so he kind of helped reduce it gradually anyway. So maybe keep the morning and evening ones to start with?

Every baby is different.
What I often do is if she only takes 100mls, I offer the rest 1/2-1hr later. Plunket say anything taken within one hour is classed as one feed. I'm a believer in filling them up as much during the day as possible. Have you tried doing a dreamfeed?

As for 'drying off' I expressed during the day and gradually reduced it. I didn't experience any discomfort, but I didn't have much coming out either!

Edited by Jaxnz1

So have noticed last two days on bottle that she will only drink around 150ml at a time, whats normal?

She still wakes up 3-6 times a night too

Any suggestions would be great

Edited by Inlove28
